What do you think Ian...shame about the budget tyres ! Small paint flaking/chip under front NS headlight
Unfortunately another one that's miles from me near the South Coast

The tyres would be the least of my concerns... the rear stickers are horrible repro items which means its had the usual work done.
Which in itself may not be terrible but would need careful investigation... and christ what are those pin stripes about.
Looks like another one that could be ok though....
Regards Ian
Forgot about the pinstripes, go faster stripes !

Hi Ian,
This is one of ours at Apsley Cars.
Yes! absolutely horrible stickers aren't they, can you obtain some Genuine Items or know somewhere where I can get some from?
The rear bootlid sticker was fading badly, hence the repro items - and yes, the rear arches will have been done at some point, hence the faded nature of the originals, someones actually lacquered over the original stickers! so it would be quite a job to replace them - but as you say, this, the tyres, and the small chip on the front bumper were the least of my worries when deciding to retail this otherwise solid Clio. We've not long had the cambelt done with a few other bits and it's a genuine example with a meticulous service record to go with it.
Thanks for the interest guys.
Alex
So i decided to go for the 3 and it was this one.
having gone over the car the only thing bodywork wise is the strip!! in the process of getting it off and replacing the stickers. (where can i get a set of stickers) and giving it a full service... engine, gear box and brakes
only issues are
a sticking fuel gauge
boot lock not working
an after market stereo (need a standard one)
broken bonnet restraint
and missing a 3 parcel shelf
it has been fitted with a chip....where would i find where its fitted

It will be a physical chip inside the ecu, how it's done is a chip carrier is soldered into the inside of the ecu and the chip is fitted into that

Engine oil is normally 5W 40
I always thought the recommened oil was Elf Competition 10/40.
Either way I've always used 10/40 forever and a day.:)
Cheers E
Either way.. Its all getting changed with fresh fluids for piece of mind as it's been sitting around and hasn't done much milage in the last few years.

Hope this helps.

More of a issue is Renault said they don't change the gearbox oil. So glad im not letting them do the work!!
Car all serviced and given the once over. Two sheared wheel nuts bur all good.
Also put the standard stereo back in..
Roll on next job
Does anybody know the part number or where I can get a drive shaft oil seal. I have a leak where it comes out of the gear box three bolts around the gator

Assume you have sorted this now?
If not Paul at Renault parts direct will sort you out, I have looked but cannot see this on the web site, everything they can supply is not on the web site though.
Yes thanks got the part from them as a precaution. Leak seams to have stopped but am keeping an eye on it

Hi Fresh, firstly good luck with your MOT!! Do you take your CW to classic heros for service/repair? If yes are they any good?? I've thought about using them as they are not far from where I live - but they look v.geared towards BMW - I wasn't sure if they would have a great deal of CW knowledge/experience!!??
Cheers. No i take mine to a local garage. I only went to classic heroes for them to look at restoring it. Very pricey.
They do know their stuff. As thy have worked on a number of williams. Id trust them if you are prepared to pay
So car passed the mot. Few advisorys on the bodywork. Kinda expected that. Will add to the to do list
An other service done. Covered less than a 1000 miles really need to start driving it more.
Ok so as the sun was out decided to get the clio out didn't get very far until the water pump developed a leak..... oh well straight to the garage for more work
After a full body respray. The garage put the stickers in the wrong place. I gave them the location diagram found on here so they put the Williams stickers on as per the diagram and then stuck yhe 3 on at the end. I would have expected the 3 to be offset from the end and the whole Williams move along.
Thoughts please

Hi fresh...yes they do.
Looks like you went for a fairly comprehensive respray....lol.
Are those the stickers you've fitted in the last photo?
Where did you get them?
Regards Ian
They are the ones the garage fitted. Order some more and will be getting them fitted next week.

There were some very good ones made on here but I'm not sure if there are any left...other than that Stick-in ones look quite good.

I got the new ones from stick-in with some vent stickers as well.
Another issue got to work out how to attach the suit carrier to the parcel shelf

Service done for another year
.... 430 miles need to drive it more
Hi Fresh, got to say 'NTC' looking good in the sunshine. Where did you go for the bodywork, and dare I ask how much it cost?? Looks really good in the photos
Skinners in Rye...
And i think the price was reasonable
I've decided it's time I need a Williams 1 as well or a 3.0 v6.
Right cars out of storage and booked in at the garage for a service, cambelt and few other bits. The issue I have the car has only covered 111 miles since the last service. Is it worth servicing as the oil etc is still fresh or do I get the garage to do a general once over?

HI Fresh... I do about 400 miles a year and change the oil and filter yearly... it might be handy if you could do that yourself for two reasons... 1. You wouldnt have to give it to somebody else to get oily marks all over it.
2. you'll probs save a fair bit of money.
In this particular instance as they are doing cambelt etc....yes get them to change the oil and filter as well.
How are you getting on with your search for a Williams 1 ?

I gave up doing stuff myself as I had a bad experience shearing some wheel nuts on a 19 16v .
Like you said probably best to do it as is going in for other bits plus its ads another stamp in the book.
To be honest given up with all the lockdown and all. Plus I dont drive the cars I have so need to sort that out. But if the right car was to come up then who knows
Good job I decided to get the cambelt done. One of the tensioners bolts were rounded. Proof that it wasn't replaced when the belt was done last time or even the time before. Bit more work but at least I know it will be done properly

Oh well thats good... I guess your garage told you this. It amazes me what goes on... there are plenty of ways to get a rounded nut off.
With regard to the sheared wheel nuts they're probably the same ones as used on the Williams. Ive had two go but without much drama....just got the wheel off and wound the broken bit out of the hub and used a new one.

Anyone got any addvice on removing the front door cards
Hi fresh...sorry I've never taken them off a Williams but have removed them from other cars and generally pretty easy... think it is several screws around the door pocket and one behind the handle and then
gently lever off with a plastic trim tool to avoid breaking the clips. There may also be some sticky bonding stuff but not certain about that.
Rgards Ian

Cheers will find out shortly
So turns out pretty much as above. One screw in the support Bradfor the door pocket. Also needed to take the internal wing mirror cover off to ease with the refit
Mot done...slight delay due to covid19...543 miles next year it will get driven more
Nice to see you are still using this and enjoying it in the sunshine!
You mentioned earlier that you had a sticking fuel gage. Did you manage to fix this? if yes how?
No just living with. I reset the trip every time I fill up then once done a certain mileage I fill up or just top it up everytime I use it. If it's stored for a while it's recommended to have a full tank anyway
ok fair enough, I have the same problem although mine is temperamental - sometimes it does actually work. I've been living with it for 5 years now! I would like to get it properly sorted one day though. Cheers anyway

i had a similar problem in one of my porsche boxsters. Was a sticking float or something like that in the fuel tank. If i parked it on a kerb at an angle with a full tank and left it for a wile it would come free. Then the gauge would work. Annoying I know. I ran out of petrol at a round about on my way home from work I didnt know what it was so panicked rang up to get AA cover and when the woman asked me what had happened she said “and you have petrol in the car” penny dropped I had ran put. Haha. Oppps.
5 years is a long time to live with an irritant....trust me I know 😂😂😂
hope you get it fixed.

Well its refreshing to know its not just me! I must say I'm surprised to hear you had that problem on a Porsche!!?? German engineering being what it is and everything!! Anyway with my W3 I've tried 3 different sender units so I'm thinking it must be the gauge itself!!?? One day I will get keen and take the whole instrument brinicle out to try and sort it. But living with it is less of a ball ache at the mo - haha!:)
Latest problem.. alternator needs replacing will add to the list when it's serviced. Oh the joys
Quick update.
The garage sourced a new alternator (3weeks to be delivered)
All fitted along with a service shame its only done 436miles between services
