The synchros on mine are on their way out, and snatching 2nd at speed is getting a little difficult.

Can these be replaced on their own or is it a full re-furb or replacement 'box?

How much we looking at d'you reckon to get it fixed.

Also if the PAS pump packed in and seized up would it **** the engine or would the belt still spin?

I'm sure it's the PAS that is making the gear whine noise I've had for ages, as it doesn't stop with the clutch in/out, and it squeels and wheezes on full lock anyway having already been bled and filled.

Guess I'll probably find out soon! :(

Yeh my PAS pump gear whines, nothing to worry about. If it seizes the belt will just spin but the PAS pulley wont. It hasn't got enough grip to lock the engine up. Should be able to drive home with the pump seized aswell.

See ya

Just had my 3rd and 4th synchros replaced, along with 3rd cog and main bearings. My car had done just over 100K, main symptom was crunching in to 3rd due to synchro knacked.

Cost me £250 labour to get the box removed / replaced, then £500 to a specialist gearbox company to open the box and do the work. NOT CHEAP!

It's perfect now tho. Sweet as!

They reckoned the bearings were just about knackered, not surprising for mileage.

ah fek! wish I'd known that a week ago. too late now. I'd have snatched his hand off. and I was conned slightly cos gearbox place said approx £350, but then whe they opened it up bumped the price up to £500 cos the bearings needed doing as well. bugger!
