Hi all,

Went to start my Williams today after about 2 weeks of being in my garage. No starting, instead I got a loud ticking sound from the starter.

Any ideas before I order a new starter motor? Have already tried hitting the solenoid a lot!

Battery indicator said it was fine but it's out and on charge now. I'll give it a couple of hours as try it.

Is there a solenoid on the starter? (question to the crew).

It may be that or (as others have said) just needs a bump.

Turns out it was the battery!! I now feel very foolish for posting this!! Moral of the tale, don't trust battery level indicators on top of batteries!

haha glad you got it sorted - a battery is miles easier to change than a starter

but i am going to give you a black mark for attacking the starter with a hammer :winkey:

what battery have you got in now?

It's the same battery that's been in it since I bought the car, a halfords one that looks too small for the tray. There's about of space an inch either side of the battery. It hasn't put a foot wrong until now though so I couldn't be bothered to change it.

What battery would you advise, if I do change mine?

The small battery should be correct for the car. It should sit flush to the black spacer fitted to the front part of the battery tray nearest the headlight.

I can highly recommend Bosch batteries if you have a costco near you.
