The newly rebuilt engine has developed a ticking noise from the bottom end area. It isn't a bearing knock or anything like that, but using a mechanics stethoscope, it appears that the noise may be coming from the oil pump,

Has anyone had this before?

The oil did get a bit too hot the other day due to an airlock developing in the cooling system, the noise began after that.

Any ideas?

Did you have the oil pump bearing replaced when the engine was rebuilt?

I'm assuming yes.

its really difficult to pinpoint, and driving me mad!! The Mrs can't hear it though....I may just be going a bit mad!

If you go night clubbing, every night, until four in the morning, for the next two weeks, it may cure it.

Try & find out, it's something that's very easily overlooked as it's on the side of the engine

It's definitely the oil pump, I've ordered a new one and I'll see how that goes. If the ticking is still there, I'll enquire with the engine builders.

Yep seen those. It's really difficult to tell if the noise is originating from the 'drive' shaft or the pump itself, only that it is defo related to the oil system.

I've ordered a new pump as it's the easiest thing (relatively speaking) to replace. If the noise persists...then it's engine out time.
