I accidentally lost all the gear oil on my van the other week and it is totally different since filling it up again.

The old 911 never went into first without a struggle. I found an article on gear linkages that ran into pages, so I put up with the struggle.

 Is that guy on crack?!?! That's about the same cost as getting a box completely rebuilt plus that's not even a williams box

Not sure when clutch cable was last changed? So will get that done and check gear box oil and see if any better then..

Yeah a stretched cable causes that issue so get that changed first. Go for a genuine one 2
good luck

i take it the standard mark 1 clio clutch cable is no differant? as RPD have them listed in the mark 1 clio section and not williams section?

Part of the reason the chap was selling my W1 was because it wouldnt select 1st/2nd and he thought the clutch/box had died, the garage had fitted a new 'Firstline' clutch cable with no change to the problem.

I'm pretty sure I found out how long the cable should be from the haynes manual. I measured the Firstline cable, and it was 9mm too long (essentially mimicking the effect of a stretched cable).

I got a Pagid one from Euro Car parts, its only ~£11; measured it and it was exactly the right length. Popped it in and the gears engauged perfecly!

Replace the cable with that Pagid one (deffo not a firstline one!!) and see where that gets you.

Hmmmm pagid us cheaper but everyone says only use oem Renault part?

I can't vouch for the longevity of the Pagid part TBH, but it's the right length when new and can be used to diagnose a possible problem cheaply. If it solves the issue, you can get an OE item.

Could also be the ratchet at fault or even worse the plastic pivot bush has worn away. Get someone to press the pedal while you measure how far the fork moves, minimum is 17mm which means it's on it's last legs & needs replacing and a new ratchet makes it move 21mm

I have a pagid cable in as I couldn't get hold of an oem one at the time.. can't fault it and has lasted a while! I think the actual cable on the pagid is slightly thicker than the oem too..

The ratchet is the clutch pedal itself & this is the plastic bush http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-5-GT-TURBO-9-11-19-21-25-MEGANE-LAGUNA-CLIO-WILLIAMS-CLUTCH-FORK-BUSH-/271971937922?hash=item3f52ca6e82

you can buy a repair kit for the clutch pedal - its that busy that I am on about. Not the one paddy linked up.

FATBOY

is this the pedal kit? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271521661183?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT is it just a case of undoing both split pins either side and changing the parts over? also as ive gone to take the clutch cable of and 2 of the clips that clips it to the side where it runs to the back of the engine are missing/non existent? could this be a factor into my problems? http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y108/fatboy78/wp_20150903_19_39_43_pro.jpg (http://s4.photobucket.com/user/fatboy78/media/wp_20150903_19_39_43_pro.jpg.html)

new OEM clutch cable fitted, new gear selector spring fitted, new gearbox oil, and still difficult to get into first, plus the clutch pedla has a really low biting point now????

have you measured the old cable against the new one first ? Just to check its length is right?

I take it you've bought genuine parts???

Was it not the right length? Mine was...although I've no idea how long it will stay that way!!
