It's the Alternator Plated Tensiorner Bracket I am trying to get hold of. If some has one and has acses to it, would be great to get a tracing of it to see if I can get one manufactured, as Ranault has stoped making these now.

So I havent had much joy in finding a Bracket so I have found an aluternertive, Dose any one know if this would work? -

No, you'd need to add something to that so that 2 bolts hold it to the block as with just 1 it wil be able to rotate on it's own & you'll lose the tension on the belt

How can it move around if it is bolted like this?

On the 2nd pic the angles involved in keeping the tension are completely different to that on the F7.

I know where you're coming from with the big nut & bolt at the back of the alternator but if that was sufficient enough to hold the belt tension by itself, that's all that would be there to hold it in place to begin with. It's still a pivot point & the tension of the belt will always be pulling on it, even more so with the engine running. The nut & bolt at the front of the alternator is the final piece of the puzzle to lock it all in place so to speak.

Now if you remove the top bolt from the bottom of the bracket to the block ( basically the same way as your DIY bracket idea) the bracket itself has nothing to stop it from pivoting & the force of the crank turning the belt will do that resulting in losing the tension on the belt.
Not such a big issue with the correct bracket as the lumps sticking out a bit on the block will stop it from going too far but your idea will be well clear of those so they wont be able to stop it pivoting too far.

Adding the extra bit in red to your idea will stop it from being able to pivot

Right OK Paddy Thanks, still a bit confused as really I thought I only needed to force the tension up, not to stabilise it as well.

Do you still have your bracket to hand atle?

If so any chance of a Trace around the bracket, scan and email to us?
