Hi, as the title suggests how much should it cost me to have my cam belt and clutch replaced on my Williams one? Had some quotes at £1200 that seems expensive to me?
Thanks in advance
Will :)

tough one.. it could be done in place but is a bitch for room.. I presume with that 1200 they will take it all out and do the belts and clutch out of the car.. would make sense if they have the tools to do so.. but is still a fair whack.. had my belts done, new clutch and with a gbox refurb for 1500 iirc and that was an engine out job and they fitted the other bits I had at the same time.. but I feel the guys didn't really want to do it, hence the price.. lol so make of that what you will.. im sure a little search around u may get smaller quotes..

Book time on a clutch is 8 hours.
cambelt is similar time, with the engine still in the car.
If you know what your doing, you can do it all by taking the engine out and back in again in 10-12hours?

As a rule of thumb, if doing more than 1 major job on 1 of these cars it's usually much quicker & easier in the long run to take the engine out to do the jobs.

£1200 is quite expensive but not totally unreasonable imo if it's at a big garage or dealership as their labour rates are higher than your more usual smaller local garages. I paid around £800 for my clutch to be done back in 2008 & as we all know, stuff has got more expensive since then.

With the engine out of the car it takes about 20-30 mins to do the cam belt
