Alright guys and gals 😉

This is my project so far, it's a shameless copy and paste from CS but feel it deserves a spot on here too

Okay, I know it's not a Williams, but I see it as the next best thing to one, it's a 1994 Clio 1.8 16v.

When I purchased her (approx Jun 2011), I was told she was chipped&mapped on a ph1 ecu, clearly was lowered which I discovered was on these http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/y6ygy3a3.jpg
Was in a lot better state then as they were new lol. I bought the car off a guy in Stoke, I'm from SY and couldn't get to view/pick up so had her delivered drone stoke to barnsley for £70 :bargain:
Up on arrival I gave her a good overall inspection as pics speak a 1000words and all... Lol, was pretty surprised if I'm honest, blebbing here and there, boot was kippered as was under both doors. Engine bay was in a state also, sadly not got pics of this as it was circa 3 year ago and have changed phones a lot lol.
Anyway, I'd owned her for about 6 months, decided I wanted to add my touch, so bought a standard stereo
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/umybama4.jpg
A k&n filter
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/va8ajuha.jpg

Then happy driving took place :)
And then disaster struck, just shy of Christmas that year, she was vandalised, keyed on the bonnet, sides and the windscreen was smashed :crybaby:
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/ne8evabu.jpg
No pics of the key damage.
Around the sane time of that I was diagnosed with bipolar so lost all faith, she then sat on a mates drive, then my mums for about 2 year :(
Then I started to get better, got a new house (with a garage  ) so started restoring her, which was always my intention!
So enough waffling from me and here's some pics to bring it to date!

Started by removing body panels
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/qu8ara2y.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/nynu4a4a.jpg

Cleaned the bay a bit, hardly noticeable lol
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/ytave5a6.jpg

Split the head from the block
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/amu6u8yj.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/e9uba5yr.jpg
It currently is sat like so
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/su7uqa4u.jpg

Here's some pics of the "non-optional extras" the mk1s came with lol

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/e3e7ajet.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/ypy6e9ah.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/saryhenu.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/uzezedaj.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/3arejyha.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/26/ude5adev.jpg

Obviously there's loads more lol. But there not all on my phone. So will have to update a bit later on!

It's good to see a project get moving again, despite personal hardships.

Those are all common rust points. Might be a good time to learn how to weld, unless you already know ofc :p

How do the engine internals look? Putting an F7R in instead?

Thanks :)

And yeah I know how to weld somewhat, I did a college course and the rest I learned myself. Best way IMO.

The internals all look mint as engine was completely rebuilt 10k ago.

Sticking with the f7p I think, IMO to many get f7r or f4rd but that's just me. And IMHO the f7p is more tweak-able... Think I'm forging it though but may just go completely standard and buy another to tune :)

Seeing pictures like these takes me back a few years! It's nice to see you've fitted the original radio to it, I love the little dated items like that with it's classic LCD display (yes I probably am a bit sad LOL). You have some work to do my friend, all the best with the project. :-D

Lol. Me and you both share the same opinion :) nobody ever really uses CDs anymore anyway so a jack is all I need lol

Got lots of goodies since the last update... I'll let the pics speak for themselves
6449
6450
6451
6452
6454
6455
And of course 6456

And these also 😝
6457
6458
Inside them
6459
6460
6461
6462
6463

So yeah!

In the next few week I SHOULD have a completely rust free valver lol.

The rear quarters are only poverty spec items but I've started modifying them to suit
6464
I have got further than that but my battery died so have no photos. However I will be sorting through the garage today to make room for the compressor and stuff, so I will get lots of photos and update later :)

Here's what happened
yesterday, I was hoping to make a start on the shell but had to tidy the garage out first...
Here's before I sorted everything
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/ymasanab.jpg
Messy messy garage, bits everywhere, so I started moving stuff
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/pu8u2evu.jpg
Engine and panels in one corner
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/mu4emabe.jpg
Rubbers arranged
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/a3y3ygym.jpg
Sorted through all the stuff, put some in the car and threw quite a bit, I was a bit stupid and wanted to keep a lot of little bits that were probably original to this car as they all had matching dates on. But space was needed so threw them out http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/epe7abe5.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/gysunaty.jpg
Bonnet and front wings are stored in a box box at the bottom of the garden lol
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/zujyny6a.jpg
Compressor in it's location with the welder also
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/epuva9u9.jpg
Carpet removed
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/3yhusu6e.jpg
Through the floor selfie... LOL 😂
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/8a9a3ese.jpg
More rust was found, again, not all that bad IMO. I've seen worse on newer cars that haven't stood for circa 3 year
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/pebequte.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/u5ypa3em.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/epegusa3.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/7ygepaja.jpg
And how I left everything,
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/03/evemepuv.jpg
I need to go and get some quick release couplings for my air hose as they didn't send me none. So will try get something done later and update :)

I've tested on a surplus bit of metal today and the welder I've bought is bang on for welding anything up to 5mm in thickness :)

Bit of an update! I got the quick release couplings along with some air tools and stuff
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/usanupyh.jpg
So today I set about removing the drivers side sills (yes sills! I'll explain further down)
I started cutting it along the line with the air grinder http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/uzyvupyd.jpg
Then my air powered needle scaler thing arrived, which also comes with the air chisels! Result lol.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/etyse8e9.jpg
Started to cut into it
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/u6u2e3yh.jpg

Evidence of too fast wire speed on a previous patch repair lol!
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/a2ypapup.jpg
Now, the sills! One the drivers side, yes, there's 2 outer sill skins on! For some fcuked up reason :/ http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/a4etutuz.jpg peeled back the top one which is visible in the pic and it was Naples still lol.
And it had 2 spot welds along the bottom! Retarded I know but that's by the by, all is getting done right.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/vu8y9yhy.jpg
Few pics of the inner sill
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/8any7yra.jpg

My battery had died yesterday so didn't have photos of the sill removed. So here's a pic
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/5azu6aqu.jpg
I need to do some fabrication for the inner sill and I'm going to order 2 inner wheel arches http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/a3ehu9yr.jpg
Also ordered a pair of front inner wings too
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/05/upupu7u2.jpg a 3 week wait for them though as the supplier (carz2) had to order them from Klokkerholm.[/QUOTE]

Okay... So today this is what I've done.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/a4aveje6.jpg
Started removing what's left of the sill
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/uby2u4a2.jpg
I did it bit by bit so I didn't cut it too short. Takes a little longer than it probably should but I'd rather not rush having not done anybody work in a year or 2
Removed the rear quarter, again bit by bit
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/u9ezu6az.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/ugyhaza5.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/6y3usy4a.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/9ypy6ype.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/ba6ade6y.jpg
And test fitted the new wing (I know it's not as flared as it should be yet but I'd rather have the shell ready for it to go straight on once it's done
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/haryquru.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/5a9a7u3e.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/u2a7ene6.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/bebe7age.jpg
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/qepu6u7y.jpg
Going to do the other side tomorrow, now I've got the "feel for it" back it will (probably lol) take me half the time than what today did

:D
Welding is more of an art than a skill IMO.
I was self taught with a little tuition from an old school panel beater lol. He always said to me "the welds don't have to look good, as long as they're penetrated enough, it's okay as you'll grind them flat afterwards anyway"
Quite good advice ime lol.

I know that feeling though, I love having the knowledge to be able to repair my own motors, too many "mechanics" out there just bish bash bosh things, it was same when I was removing the engine, there were bolts missing, snapped bolts, engine loom was a mess, under front bumper clips are snapped off and lots more.

If you want to learn to weld, buy yourself a decent mig, and get plenty of practice on some scrap metal :)
Will post an update tomorrow as I've not done anything at all today lol, need to get done compressor oil tomorrow and some fibreglass to fix up my stepsons mini moto lol

Yes mate. I've worked in body shops so I'm pretty good with a set of panel beating tools... I'm using the full "up to window" rear quarter and modifying it to flare as a 16v/williams would.
There's a trick to it which I will post on when I come to the other side. I used this method on a mates rt clio and people thought it was a valver shell so can't have been a bad job lol 😝

They drill out okay but I tend to grind them down with a dremel and they then pop off using a flat head screwdriver or something similar. I used to use a proper spot weld cutter but they only lasted for about 5 spot welds lol.

My front and rear inner wings arrived yesterday

Had to spray some red oxide on the rear inners as they didn't have any protective coating on

All I've managed to do is mark up the existing rear inner arch ready for cutting

It's a shame but I believe in everything happens for a reason.
I'm starting to save up for new tools and I'm going to be making my garage more secure, and I'll be getting some home insurance too. Thanks for all the positive comments folks

Yes yes I know, loads of rust. But that's what a restoration is all about :)
Besides I've already got new inner arches to go on. Will update with more photos when she's sat in my garage :)
