This is mainly aimed at benr, J3ned, Hill power & BB tunning.

I have been told that my sump plug on my williams has worn the thread away on the sump.

The next oil change i have will probally remove whats left of the thread. The garage says they can call a specialist to helicoil a new thread into the sump for £150 (ish)

But how much are new sumps and how easy are they to change. Does the engine need to be raised ?

ace.

might just plump for a helicoil then.

Tryed to fit the R19 mount and u carnt fit it with the engine in situ...not enough space.....might be best to raise it a bit.

Northy mate dont worry about a helicoil...

The sump has quite a bit of casting around the drain hole, if you can find the next thread size up, me thinks i used a tap for a 3/8th hydraulic fitting like.

Cant remember the exact tap size/pitch but its quite common... :P

if you tap or helicoil be careful of swarf.

Sumps on a williams can be a bastard if you get even one of the bolts strip/thread/rounded.........took me an entire day and half to get once off once with all the stuck bolts.

Good point ben, if your gonna use a tap use a spiral flute one as it draws the swarf out as it cuts... :)
