Ok, took car for a run into work today in Derby (24 miles each way) drove faultless on way their. On way home, I came to a junction and dipped clutch, stalled! For last 4 miles it won't idle. It starts up and immediately cuts out.

When driving, its perfect. No misfire, loss of power or anything. It's just decided not to tick over!

Help please! I've cleaned the ISCV within last 6 months.

Not sure if this is any use pal..........

Idle fault number 7
start my car from cold idles fine. 5 mins later engine has warmed up a bit then every time a put clutch to floor my engine dies! traffic is a nightmare so is stopping as everytime i stop it stalls and everytime i change gear if im not quick enuff it stalls.

start the car back up its fine until i have to stop again.

FIX

the screw on throttle housing has to be screwed right down. you know the screw i mean go have a look

if none of the above fix your poor idle consider removing your ecu and drying it out. consider the inlet manifold gasket, inlet manifold cracks etc...also check vacuum hoses for splits. Check that the MAP sensor is connected up...consider replacing MAP sensor. Check all pipes are secure on ISCV, and no leaks on the throttlebody gasket... feel free to update the list

Dodgy coolant temp sensor and lambda has caused the same issue on mine in the past

paddy, it's had new lambda sensor so it narrows it to coolant temp. Its Definately something like that as it's not misfiring and drives perfectly. It's just you pull up and it cuts out. Strange.

chris thanks for that. I'll also check that out. It's been when its red hot, after a 20 mile thrashing. I suspect paddy is right with coolant temp sensor. Garage smells quite rich too. I'll swap that first I think. Cheers guys, extremely useful as ever !

The smelling rich does point more towards the CTS tbh as that does have an effect on the fuelling

Just tried to start it up, it fires and cuts straight out still. Very strange. I'll have a good look at it on Saturday

FIXED IT. After 6 pints and a curry last night, child free I went in to try and start it to show the wife what I meant. Popped the bonnet, located the ISCV, looked at the plug on it, loose! The metal safety clip that holds it tight is missing. Pushed it back on, perfect.

i love beer!
