Just after some of your valued opinions on a cambelt situation im in.

I need to get my car to a garage to have the full cambelt done but im in a bit of a dilema where I dont know whether to have it towed or to drive it there. The cambelt was last changed in 2006 and has covered approx 50k since the change. The car has not been used for at least two years, possibly three.

Would you run the risk and fire up the old girl and drive her there or would you not run the risk and pay for it to be towed??

what condition does it look to be in? if it looks ok and as long as ur gentle u'll be ok, I think.. how far do u have to go with it? but then for the sake of the price of having a toe..(phone a friend) you may find its not worth the risk... have u had/heard it fire up?

No idea as I believe you cant see the belt unless you remove a few bits and bobs (bits and bobs is my mechanical term lol). It would be around 10 miles journey. Northy has said he can tow me for £50, need to just have a good think and decide what to do as moneys tight at the mo. I havent heard it fire up as I have been too scared to haha!

Are the no local members with Cambelt knowledge near by able to help you out, so you don't need to get garage or towing involved? Or is the stamp in the book more important in this case?

Nice looking car.

Good luck.

Dave.

Depends on what you mean by cambelt knowlege, one member has said he can change just the belt on my driveway in a day but the If I wanted the tensioners/pulley doing it probably couldnt be done in a day and he would be doing a 2 hour journey just to come and help me out lol.

A stamp in the book doesnt bother me as I keep all receipts anyway :)

The belt was actually done on 84k in 2006, not 50k so its only covered 14k since the change, although it still doesnt have the age on its side lol

In all honesty, it would probably be OK. However, I am MR.Cautious so I'd most likely get it trailered to be on the safe side.

BTW - Well done on your purchase 8-)

The fact that you have now asked the question means you have to tow, I mean if you had said nothing it would have been fine but it looks like you'v jinxed the situation ha.

So yeah tow it £50 will be worth it.
