View Full Version : Poxy rear crank seal
So the engine went back in my Williams 2 and I thought after all these years I could finally enjoy some boost...
But oh no, the rear crank oil seal is leaking again by the looks of it... It looked like this one was going to be a keeper when the engine was on the bench :(
Any tips on how to make the bloody thing work once I get the engine out again, short of welding a tea tray under the car to just catch the oil lol
I've never rebuilt one but I have heard of this problem before - I think you need to spunk quite a lot of silicone around the seal.
Speak to Danny at 519 Automotive, he'll know the best way to do it.

Wont be the crank seal, you need to jam a shedload of sealant in the corners in this pic

It's because the end cap looks like this if you look closely

Thanks for the tips.
My engine builder definitely went to town with the RTV this time to be sure all was ok... But still got these problems :(
I had this. Basically sorted it by doing the follwing, sump off, undo and remove end cap, clear out as much sealant as you can to clean out the gully. Then as paddy said get as much sealant in there as you can and refit the end cap and sump and your done. Worked on mine. Still ok a couple of years later.
Ok thanks, let's hope I have better luck this time!

Nearly every single engine builder makes the mistake of not using sealant on the inside of the end cap
