Is it possible to buy a piece that can be welded in? My arches aren't terrible in condition but one has been repaired before, I could get away with just cutting the rusty sections out and welding a piece of plate in but If a piece can be bought then I think I will cut both out and weld the new in.

http://www.nicedeals.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=1_230_507&products_id=3432 Found these, I don't know if it would be better to mod them to fit just so I can keep the lip on the edge, has anyone else done this?

Hello mate you can use the the normal Clio one and modify as I did but if you taking it somewhere they should be able to cut and weld a plate made by them

I will getting it welded by the garage but even though the arches aren't bad right around the guy said if a replacement is available its a neater Job to fully cut it out and weld the new piece in, much less likely for the rust to come back in another area too as there has been a previous repair.

Yeah I see where you coming from but there are differences with that arch compared to the Williams that need to be modified to look right

I might just buy 2 of these and use them to cut a the area required from keeping the main part of the arch intact for it's shape

Which side?

The drivers side has gone at the front area of the arch and the passenger side towards the rear bumper mounting area, although the lower sill area is a little weak on the passenger so was going to cut that back aswell to good metal! will see if I have any pics that show the rust!

Why is it the drivers side is alway worse ?

I can make a guess on this and say it's because usually when parked on the road this door faces out into the traffic.

I can rememmber many years ago a freind had a brand new mk 4 Cortina which he used to park on the main road outside work, after a fairly short period of time the
drivers side was completely shot... just a theory. :)

Also has the filler neck and associated pipes which can hold more dirt/moisture.

When you say you have a passenger side Mat is it a good one that could be cut out? Must dig some pictures out of the rust. Been really busy doing my garden I meant to do months ago before the cold weather comes!

Filler caps trap moisture, rain water runs down into the petrol cap and seeps into the arch. This area inside is poorly protected. Best protect with zinc primer if your doing the job properly.

Not a great pic but this is what the drives arch is like, the passenger side only has a bit towards the rear bumper mounting but I think the passenger has had a minor repair to it before.
