Guys, urgent replies will be greatly appreciated. My Mechanic has the old box from my WIlliams 3 on the floor but the replacement (off a 3) wont mate up to the engine, something to do with the linkages. Would all Williams 3 boxes be absolutely identical or were there variations that make swapping box for box difficult?

Regards, James.

UPDATE - its the main shaft in the gearbox that the clutch mounts to, the old box has 27 teeth and the new box 26 teeth. So the clutch wont go in. Everything else on the box loks identical.

Sounds a strange one indeed. Surely it would be a straight swap, unless there is differences

I just put a Williams 2 box in our lasses Williams 3 last week and they were the same, never heard of input shaft spline variations before, very strange!

Right, hilarious this! The mechanic can't count! He has lost his rag with it, apparently there was some debris in a groove that was stopping things going on. It's now all fitted up! My wallet had a heart attack for a moment! Thanks to the respondents, much appreciated. Lol!
