Well now that she is running a new problem has appeared in the form of no reverse gear and fifth seems hard to come out am I right in guessing gear linkage is set up wrong or worn also any pics of your intake manifold would help xxxx

yeah, sounds so.. could be where the linkage rod connects to the selector fork.. can get abit wobbly there.. or ive found that inside the car.. the gearstick goes into almost a ball socket affair.. the socket as it were.. black rubber looking bit can come loose and move around when u change gear.. so ur actually moving the gearstick further and its doing the same as it should be doing.. lift ur gearstick gaitor up and put it into gears.. see if the housing of the ball n socket moves around.. that will cause wobblyness of the gearstick inside when ur in gears etc.. or there is a little spring under the car.. where the g/stick comes down.. (behind/under the heatshield) should b a spring from the linkage rod to the chassis/floorpan to keep it stiffer and hopefully central-ish..lol that my 5 mins anyway!

Turned out previous owner had put a bolt in dog bone mount that was too long and gear linkage was hitting in when moving over shorter bolt job sorted
