Hello all,

has anyone gone from power to non-assisted steering? I'm wondering if the 'steering experience' will be improved (more feel)?

cheers

Quite a few track-goers have. In fact, I think there were a couple of threads about it last week...go see mechanical or performance tuning sections...

Yes, best thing I ever did to the car and I used it daily

Great, how would you describe the difference (apart from getting rid of the annoying power steering noises)

The feel of the car through the steering wheel is massively increased/improved, gave me a lot more confidence in the car when driving it hard & as odd/wrong as it sounds I felt a bit safer to try & push harder & go faster.
With PAS it got to a point when driving hard that I didn't like the feel through the wheel to go faster round certain bends so didn't dare push it harder.

Then there's the added benefit of getting rid of a decent amount of weight and easier access to the alternator, belts, water pump and being able to fit a 5th engine mount

Did you just use a manual rack from a poverty model 16v_paddy?

i think its manual rack and manual column to do the job right

You need column and rack columns are different Ones Longer , I do prefer the manual steering when pressing on just a twat trying too 3 point turn once your rolling tho ud never know and you soon get used too it
My column came off a ph3 so I got quite a nice key too :)
