Hey Chaps, Currently suffering with rusty coolant, has been flushed twice in the last few months.. fairly new radiator and new expansion tank.. pipes have been cleaned out too.. still im getting rusty coolant.. whats the best way to try and clean this out.. or where would the rust be coming from..inside the block itself?

cheers..

How have you flushed it though?

Learned this 1 the hard way when I fitted new hoses for someone, you need to get some cheap & nasty coolant. Fill it up with that, bleed it properly etc then take the car for a blast, drain the coolant, repeat the process once more, drain it all, fill back up with clean hot water but leave off the coolant return pipe , keep topping the header tank up until the water coming out of the return pipe is clean.
Once it's clean you can drain it all the fill back up with type D goodness. It's the chemicals in the coolant that sort of dislodges the rusty crap that's inside the engine & everywhere else

unfortunaltey it wasnt me that has been flushing, so i presume its just had water pumped throught it until it became clear/slightly clear..i guess anyways.. ill get it done this way next time..see if that makes any difference.. hopefully it will..

Has anyone ever thought of decarbonising there engines? saw it on wheeler dealers that repeated the other day.. called something along the line of terraclean or si know ive seen threads on here about engine flushing being bad for our engines.. this the general concensous by you guys?? excuse the spelling if its wrong.. or using 'Forte' sposed to be worth it, but duno if it has a tendancy to harm engines..

You'll never get rid of all of it without a major clean out and new pipes.

If you look at the old pipes, you'll see there is residue all the way inside them, and it stays there for ages, even if you flush them.

Matrix too.

Inside the block will be messy as well.

Mines okay, but the coolant always gets stained a bit even with a cleaned engine/rad etc.

Best and cheapest way ........ Mr muscle plug and drain unblocker now most people think nope don't do it but honestly it works and is used in many garages , I thought what everyone thinks surely it will reck hoses etc but it really doesn't I have used it on every car i have owned so guess my cars are living proof it work :) simple pour into expansion tank run car for a day then drain and flush with clean water and the fill with correct coolant mix :) problem solved
