Thanks for the welcome. i have always wanted to go out on track in my 197 but never have actually done it so to be honest I doubt I will track the Williams, just want it for some weekend fun and I'll get a diesel for during the week as my 197 is costing me around £250 per month of fuel

I think I've seen this car around before, as there can't be many LY F1's. Good choice in getting a Williams, just make sure you find a good one and have a garage to keep it in and it should last forever.

Thanks lads. Im just looking at moving house and viewing one on Saturday which has a garage and to be honest I wont buy one until I have a garage to store it in.

Where you based Boost?

Near Stockport Chris. We're usually in the Megane though as the Williams stays tucked away in the garage, not driven it for a couple of years now lol.

Ahh right not far away then. Couple of years!! what you doing man! ha ha

Im hoping to be in the market for one by 2-3 months time, need to do some proper research at what to look for. i know about the leaking sunroofs and the rust on the rear arches.

you wont escape the rust now mate especially on sub 3k cars.

Rust is an issue with ANY car really.

As he says, the project itself is the fun part.

The 197 is a great car, albeit flawed from what I have read, but the Williams is likely to be more delicate at first as it will be older, unless you buy a seriously rare well looked after one. The good thing is most stuff is relatively cheap and easy to fix, as it is interchangeable with poverty spec or 1.8 16v versions.

I drive an M5 daily car now, as the Williams is having TLC, but believe me when I tell you I REALLY miss the Williams. The M5 will go before the Clio, if it comes down to a choice. Both are brilliant, but the Willy...omg.

Good luck!!

Jamie - No mate, it would be nice to have both but in order to have a williams the 197 will have to go, Its the fuel thats the killer.

Wobba - Ha ha well maybe once or twice then :p

Well I want to sell the 197 privately to be honest as I owe prety much what its worth so with part-exing I would end up with negative equity

Lol, yeah its bad isn't it? Just don't get chance to use it, but it might come out this summer... Maybe!

Look for a willy 1 if you can IMO and find the best one you can body wise as that's more expensive to sort. The rubber seals etc cost a fortune and you can easily end up spendinding a few k before you even start looking at resprays. Depends on how far you want to go though!

Yeah thanks for some tips there. Tbh im not entirely sure what I want yet, I dont want somethign which needs loads of work for the simple reason that I know nothing about engines etc. Id like one which is a perfect runner which just needs a little tidy up here and there so that you get the enjoyment of improving something (if any of that makes sense lol)
