Hi guys,

Its that time again for me to do an oil change on the willy. For the last 4 years I've bought the best oil I could afford- castrol edge sport 0w40 fully synthetic. Am I wasting my money? Many people have said that there's no need to spend a lot on a modern oil because the car is so old! I've looked around and found comma 15w40 semi synthetic. Is this good enough for my pride and joy,or shall I stick to the expensive stuff? Suggestions/help would be much appreciated, thank you. Wayne

A decent brand semi synthetic 10w40 is what you want

I'd pay the extra and go for a fully synth. With the cost of petrol these days 5 litres of the 'expensive' oil every 6000 miles/year isn't that significant an additional expense that it is worth skimping on, IMO. You might want to consider a different viscosity though - I seem to recall a discussion on here before and it was thought that 0w40 was a bit thin for these cars, but do a search and I'm sure you'll find some recommendations.

My post crossed with Bass's (I type too slow!). He sells the stuff so will know what's worth getting.

Took you 15 minutes to type that :tongue3:

Mobil Super S 10w40
Total Quartz 7000 10w40
Q8 Formula Advanced 10w40

are the ones I'd be looking at for a Wililams :)

Fuchs 10w40 from GSF is fine. Plus as a member we get a 10% club discount.

Just by coincidence I have been using Total Quartz 7000 10w40 but only because its £48 for 15L from my local Subaru dealer which seems quite cheap to me:lol:

Not a bad price at all, is that plus vat?

Hi Bass, thanks for the go at Snetterton again.... much appreciated.

I made a mistake on the Total Quartz.... it was £50.40 including vat for a 15L pack, it must have been a bit cheaper the previous year.

I keep on expecting them to discontinue it at that price but so far I've been lucky.... I think I might go and get another pack for next year:)

Cheers Ian

No problem at all Ian!

Yeah it's still a good price to be fair, and a decent oil too:-)
