I fixed my ITB'd Clio. It works. It's loud. It's bloody epic again.

The main problem was that it wouldn't start for some unknown reason. I found the ECU had switched a setting due to memory corruption from a retarded bodyshop welder and the car thought it was a Yamaha motorbike, with the wrong settings for flywheel.

YAY!!! I SO HAPPEH!!!!

There is no words in the English language that could explain the feeling you get when you have resuscitated a seemingly dead car.
I doff my cap to you for sticking with it when it would have been infinitely easier to have given up.

yea....ok....so it was too early to celebrate :(

I spent another week and a half, bought a laptop for cheap, replaced battery to access ECU, had to take new alternator out as the regulator was gone and it was overcharging, cleaned sparks and plug wells, re-wired the crank sensor AGAIN, messed about with cables and checked yards of wiring loom, ditched the HID's just in case, shielded some sensitive sensor wiring, cleaned the frigging flywheel teeth and new sensor...it STILL was misfiring though I did fix a couple of minor things I found along the way (flickering dash lights and interior light failure). I also checked and rechecked the earths, and even used the jump lead trick on the gearbox to the negative on the battery...

What I didn't know was the jumper cable I used was ****ed!

What I also missed was the gearbox earth LOOKED ok, but when I just took it off just now, where it met the bit the bolt from the box goes into, it was frayed and corroded badly. I replaced the earth cable with a spare, sanded it all down after a major clean and BOOM. It's not misfired at all since today after driving granny about in hot conditions (it used to get worse when hot which makes sense as the heat made for more electrical resistance).

I'll test a bit more but fingers crossed, that's it.

Piece of shit. I'm just leaving it now, out of energy.

Have you told the car that you love it? Perhaps it's just playing hard to get?

Someone at work's car always breaks when it's dirty so maybe yours just needs some tlc ;)

It gets more than enough already. Even my granny came out to tell it to be a good car and we all love it, and not to be naughty and mean to me!

Fixed. Was a relay or a dodgy crimp on fuel pump earth not exactly sure.

It had the ECU going apeshit and also corrupted the map.

Ok, it's been on a fair few tough journey's so far since the last work I did and I think I can safely say it is finally fixed. Hooray!

Next up is dent removal, swapping out gearbox to send to Gripper Diffs.

After that I am going to decide the long term nature of my relationship with Williams 0217. Track toy or occasional shiny road toy.
