Check in the scuttle panel:winkey:

Water gets into the plug for the heater and the connections get all rusty....normally anyway:???:

Are you on about the fan or the actual heater itself?

If it's the fan blower not working just buy this http://www.gsfcarparts.com/parts/cooling-heating/heating-ventilation/heater-blower-resistor this is what normally goes but the fan stops working in stages like the 1st speed setting etc but I'd do that after checking the fuses for the fan

when i turn the switch on to 1 2 or 3, nothing happens.

the radiator fan works fine, kicks in at temp

Right, I'm with you now  check that the fuse for it hasn't blown 1st. If the fuse is fine it's most likely the resistor in the link above, they do die eventually. Don't go to renault for it as it's the exact same part as you get from GSF :winkey:

had a very quick look today at some cables, they was leading to a black plastic box with something inside, couldnt see much as the wiper arms were in the way. is that the fan? wipers out job and pull it to drivers side in the scuttle n check the connectors yea?

To do a clean job, remove the skuttle panel (refurb it too!) clean out all the dead bugs and leaves/compost etc, remove wiper mechanism carefully, treat any rust, remove heater fan, hoover all the shit that collects around the seal out, replace fan with new one or the plug thing. Replace all the stuff. Turn car on, turn fan on (not directed at face as it may blow out any crap that got in when you removed it in yer eyes). Job done.

Derbyshire mate, near matlock

just ran out in my lunch to try to reset my clutch and find a blown fuse. fuses all fine, quick finger check of the plug to the fan in the scuttle too and it seems fine, no obvious melting etc but i'll have to have it off to see :-)

clutch played silly buggers though so I got drenched!lol! luckily I have works clothing so changed when I got in :-)

took the fan unit out, was stiff, spun it with fingers n wd40'd it, plugged it in, still nothing. checked all my fuses they all good.

am i right in thinking that i could test the connector with one of them screwdriver things with the ignition on? if i touch a live pin it will light the screwdriver up? that would tell me the fans getting power but the fans broken?

you can yes, i have just traced my fault to the resistor pack, which i have since replaced and all working again now :-)

like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electrical-Neon-AC-DC-Mains-Power-Tester-Screwdriver-UK-Multi-electrical-tester-/160825750053?pt=UK_Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item2571f63225

or will i go bang?

also, wheres the resister mate, got a pic of where i can find it?

don't have pics no, but if you follow wiring from loom to the blower, where it plugs in is the resistor. then 2 wires come from that to the fan itself.

resistor is held in with 2x screws and a couple of clips. easiest bet is just remove scuttle and wiper mechanism then can take cover off the blower unit and see everything easily, 20 minute job like.

I have one of those screwdrivers.......but I didn't use it as if am honest I have no idea how to, I made a test lamp using my indicator bulb holder and some wire!lol!
