View Full Version : noisy cam lifter
Hello everybody.
last week I realised that one of the hydraulic cam lifters is noisy and it's not going completely away.
Any suggested actions for that?
The 16 of them, only the lifters, are £500 new from Renault.
That is not an option.
Can anybody help?
Thanks
ebay, set for 60 squid and although they can be hit and miss most are usually better than a knackered one
i have a set of the ebay ones i got for the turbo and never fitted. your for £50.00. pm me if interested.
Do you know if the cam wears when the lifter is knackered and so can I visually check if I take out the cover?
I've never seen one, I wouldn't be concerned about it unless the noise has been ongoing for a long time and is particularly loud/worrying
yes he should coops. mainly as i have some to sell him. nudge nudge wink wink.
I was more referring to the question regarding worn cams, not worn tappets ;-)
So I guess I have to change the tappets only.
Does anybody have any idea how much this will cost to do it in a garage?
Cause if I do it my self I will need many days and I need the car.
Thanks for the replies anyway.
When i was looking at getting it doen, i was quoted £150, its supposed to take 3 hours.
sounds about right, its not too bad to do, took me around half that but you know garages ;-)
just whip cams out and swap the tappets :-)
Thanks for the replies guys. Hope the garages won't charge ridiculous amounts.
Just swap out the tappets. Mine from Ebay years ago were totally fine. I manually primed them with new oil, which was a ballache, and left them ina tub of new oil overnight too before fitting, but then, I am anal.
Thanks for the replies guys. Hope the garages won't charge ridiculous amounts.
Just do it yerself if you know about cam timing and have some basic tools...and cam lube.

Hey coops, now knowing youre from around the sutton area, anychance of you one day showing me its not all that hard hahah. My williams is sounding a bit sewing machinish, would love some good advice on how to remedy some of the problems with it. Was also told anything to do with the cambelt is an engine out job.
