any particular reason why? are they better or something? I've always used cheap as chips fram jobs and been fine :-)

They give better oil pressure as they're the closest spec to the OEM ones which were specific to the F7R engine. That was before Renault changed the spec to a generic filter used across the range which gave a lesser oil pressure.

Or so I believe??? I've got one on mine anyway ;-)

Champion F136 oil filter is the recommended for Williams. Formely I used Mann filter, but that caused lesser oil pressure. I'm going to change the oil next weekend (Mobil-1 Rally Formula 5w50), but unfortunately I could not buy F136, so I've bought a Purflux oil filter (LS218). Hopefully it will work properly. Although it looks as low as the Mann (it's 50 mm high only). I also have to change the oil pressure sender (that sits above the oil pump auxiliary shaft), it hasn't worked since last autumn :? Any idea how could I change it easily?

yanoo, with purflux(it's the original renault) you will have the same problem, low pressure too

Yanoo_
26-04-2012, 16:32
Thanks for the info! It seems oil change will be delayed until I can get the proper oil filter :(

Yanoo_
26-04-2012, 16:41
Damn edit button:

the matter: I asked a Renault mechanic about it today. I was told that formerly an another type of Purflux filter was used in F7R engines (as it has already mentioned in this topic). That was taller (and perhaps that gave higher oil pressure but the guy cannot confirm it).

I ordered 5...should of known there would be demands for more.
Diditno your 4 will be with me on the 11th or so as a family member is bringing them over here to me. Manxseven you can have the 5th.

As for ordering more, well yes I will no probs. Just need to ask the seller to see what he can do about his shipping rates, then I will order 20 of them and split the cost of shipping over the cost of them.
Should work out at about €10 per filter or £7 + £2 postage to you lads in the UK maybe cheaper if he quotes me better on the shipping.

Only yesterday I started the old girl and got a good indication of pressures using the standard filter from reno with 10/40 in the sump, at various operating temps. At this stage I need to satisfy my own curiosity.

See you's all later..
Fab. :)

Just wanted to let you's know that I looked into a bulk purchase.
For 25 or more they will work out at £4.50 each + delivery costs of £3.
So £7.50 a filter delivered to your door. I think it's safe to say that we are not buying them for cost saving but more to do with availability.

If you are interested just make a note of it here in this thread of the quantity you require and if we reach the quota (25) within 2 weeks we will go ahead and buy them.

Sound fair enough?

icenutter
07-05-2012, 15:44
Is that £3 each for postage, or £3 per delivery?

diditno
07-05-2012, 16:30
Prob £3 each. He has to ship them from italy to ireland then you. So £3 carridge is a bargain.

diditno
07-05-2012, 16:32
P.s. if you need me order more, ie 10 let me know if you need me to make up the numbers.

fabulicious
07-05-2012, 16:45
£3 per filter.
This covers delivery costs from Italy to Dublin and then onto the UK.

There are 15 ordered so far and it's very much on a first come first serve basis.

-jo-
08-05-2012, 18:32
No, i meant the illusion about oilpressure and diff. filters. This is funny, tought it was a joke.

oilpressure is always absolute pressure, no matter what filter used. Ive seen less pressure because of oilcoolers and sandwichplates but never caused by filters.

btw, i'm using purflux for the last 15 years.

Just threw one into mine and sure enough there is a higher pressure reading from the internal gauge as opposed to the OE one that was in it, under idle conditions or at 2.5K rev's.

For others looking to buy these filters..it would be best if you asked one of the lads on here who sell parts to stock them. It's way to expensive for me to buy them here and ship them out to you lads. They would work out at £8 each just to clear the costs and thats at trade prices.

Ok cool everyone seems to have got their package's. I'm glad to be of service but this started as a token of my appreciation to diditno and I would like to keep it that way if I may. Also can't go on without giving some acknowledgement to the robster for the tip also even though he makes getting his message across as difficult as hell!
I've sent a PM to someone who sells reno parts here on the forum with the intention of supplying him the filters direct but no reply.
So if someone who is in the business of selling car parts wants a supply of these then I can put you in touch with the vendor local to me here and you should be able to do business with them.
However I cannot help but think that if you go to a local factors in the UK and request parts from federalmogul they should be able to supply you the champion filter each day and every day you want them. They may be more expensive in small quantities but they are most certainly still available.
http://www.fmecat.eu/index-car.asp

p.s If anyone knows where Laine is give him a nudge cause if he doesnt claim his 5 filters I will send them on to the lads above by early next week.

icenutter
18-05-2012, 16:13
Hopefully we can get something sorted together (as a forum). I've actually been into quite a few motor factors recently, and they haven't had any in stock. More worryingly, at one (helpful) place I waited while they checked with their supplier, and they didn't have any either.

I suppose I could sit down and go through the Yellow Pages and phone every motor factor in the area!

Just an update people. Before i fitted one of these with a renault filter the pressure sat at all but zero in the pressure gauge at hot idle. With the champion fitted, it sits at just under 1 bar with a hot engine at idle.

As far as i an see, a most worth while addition.

fabulicious
23-05-2012, 20:07
So explain to me how come the pressure drops on deceleration to below 1 on the gauge after fitting one?
And before anyone says it's the sender well thats total cock. My car has never had an issue with oil pressure or reading before fitting this filter. We checked the wiring this eve on the sender and gave it a wiggle and the gauge did not budge.
The car was running perfect before taking out the OE one.

Northy your not being helpful. I went out of my way to get these filters and not one person has come back with a constructive comment.
Is that what this forum has descended into? A bunch of self obsessed individuals?
I'm extremely worried that some damage has come to the car. Is it possible too much oil pressure can damage internal components/seals?

northy
23-05-2012, 21:52
Ive used these for years fab in my cup car. No problems.

So what filter have you got fitted now?

What oil grade are you using??

Did you keep the original fitter before swapping onto the champion???

If you did can you Cut both filters open and compare the internals.

diditno
23-05-2012, 22:15
Fab i put up my experience of them up earlier in te thread. Mine holds more pressure than with a renault one, and with hot oil, the idle is arount 1bar on the gauge, where it waszeo with he renault one. maybe you just a dodgy one, which can happen. But im over the moon with mine. Thanks. Again.

Red_Dash
23-05-2012, 22:24
Mine are sat on a shelf in the garage because I don't currently have the engine in the car. It may be a few months before it goes back in. I'll post up my experiences at that time. I can't do it before for obvious reasons...

Lads all I did was a straight swap. did not change oil nothing. just whipped out the OE one and put the champion in. started the car and all appeared fine (this was last week). Did not touch anything else.

Yesterday decided to go for a drive and the gauge was up and down like a yoyo after the engine got to temp, especially on deceleration.
I have never seen my gauge go under 1 bar. NEVER. I get 6 on start, and 4 when idling when warm..and it always stayed there. It only goes to 3 when on a very long motorway run when the oil gets really hot.

Went to renault in the afternoon.Got an OE one back in there..drove the car last night and everything appears normal again.
So I'm not sure. Possibly a faulty one but I really am not sure about it.

If you were getting such good figures with the oe filters why did you swap to a champion? You already had 3 bar more than book figure on warm idle.

Tight squeeze between the subframe though as it is a bit taller than the Renault filter.

Ok, I've ordered 52 filters finally (you should have seen the seller's face :D). Most of them are not stored in the central storehouse, they are stored separately in small shops of the multiple store. These ones must be collected at first therefe I will be able to pick them up on Thursday at the earliest. I got 100 HUF/piece discount (~30p). I quess that the package will weight approx 13-14 kgs. The shipping cost of Hungarian Post is crazy (26325 HUF), I will ask quote from DPD tomorrow (on the base of their on-line catalogue, it would be approx 8000 HUF, but it seems me too cheap).

Payment via PayPal or bank transfer, please. I'll let you know the payment details when I have got the filters and the postage is cleared.
