Hi there, Ive done a little search but still can't conclude on this so please help if you can. I purchased some phase 1 copies recently of Wrighty..

They seem really good but no template, So what are the correct measurements for positioning the williams side stickers in relation to the rear quarter side strip, in terms of gap and distance in from the end? Pics would be helpfull or if anyone can measure theirs that would be great, It would be nice to get this as close to perfect as possible.

Thanks a lot. and I await the onslaught of moans :D

I'm sorry Paul, but that is wrong.
There should be enough space to fit the number on if it needed one.

Thanks very much for those measurements Fatboy.

This is a bit controversial with the numbers supposedly being able to fit on after the letters. Mine was originaly too close to the edge to do that, this was also supposed to be the original arches and stickers too.

Still confused..

I have a 50,000 mile Williams 1 that I've owned since 1998. I'm 100% sure it's never had any bodywork in that area. If you don't get the measurements in the meantime, then I'll post some up for you when I get home tomorrrow to help confirm.

FATBOY
15-04-2012, 11:39
hmmmmm even on a williams 1 mat??? why would you want space for numbers if when they were produced, the 2's and 3's were not even thought of(or were they?), im adament mine has never had any bodywork in the past? or new decals? so if what you say is correct then my WILLIAMS decals should measure up the same as whats on the WILLIAMS 3 then??? i await peoples views on this :D

MatBrown

Yes mate, even on a willy 1.
The williams logo should be in the same place across all models as the application paper was the same design.
The designers may well have thought of leaving the space beforehand.

There are not many cars out there now that have never had any bodywork, trust me i've been looking for years.

Here's what they should look like (ignore the phase 2 bumpstrip).

That depends how much paint your willy 3 has had.

This pic suggests that there is a little bit of a gap before the Williams decal shows. I'd have thought the other side would be exactly the same

whats your mesurements then mat?

vkosho
15-04-2012, 16:41
Just had a think about this and leaving a gap doesnt really seem logical as the Williams is the opposite way round on each side. This would mean the side with the W nearest the edge of the bump strip would be set in once the number was added and the side with the Number at the edge would be overhanging.

Picture and measurements taken in the garage with the stupid bike in the way..... but should be accurate to half a millimetre or so.

If you need it more accurate you will have to wait until I come out of hibernation.

I'm curious about this now...

The fact that we know the Williams 1 should have outline decals is, from my perspective, based on what I've heard on this forum. However, I've seen a couple of times recently cases where, including my own car, people have Williams 1 cars and have infilled stickers even though they are pretty sure that the car has not had any bodywork in that area and therefore assume that the stickers are original.

Has anyone actually spoken to Renault to determine if no infilled stickers were used on Williams 1 cars or is our knowledge just based on the cars we have seen with our own eyes. I for one would be interested to find out. I wonder if maybe they started using outline stickers but then switched to infilled stickers part way through the Williams 1 finishing process for some reason...

Any thoughts?

MatBrown
17-04-2012, 23:05
Unfortunately the Williams 1 did only come with outline decals, these became superseded at quite an early stage meaning any replacement stickers would have been infilled if sourced from Renault.
The one good thing is that as there is no metallic blue infill to worry about, exact replicas are achievable.
If only one of your stickers is infilled and the other is outlined then one of them must be wrong as I doubt even Renault would use different stickers for each side of a car!
If you want me to have a look at your car I will be able to tell you what has been painted?

You can see the square dot above your I is wrong when compared to the other pictures.

And also the second 'I'...the top it wrong too, the infill bit is pointy on the inside and on OE is is squared off.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [-X [-X

I might have caused some confusion here. When I said 'original' I was referring to Renault supplied, not 'original' as in the W1.

I now know that only a few W1s had no infil, and from thereon after they were all infilled on the later W1s, and the W2 & W3.

ianbirch
19-04-2012, 17:24
p4cks.... what makes you think later W1s had an infill in the decal?

I have had 2 and they were both without infill.... as far as I know none of the

numbered batch (W1) had infills.

Maybe somebody could straighten this out....

Cheers Ian

I know on the tail gate the williams is as per 0014 but the 3 is aligned to finish where the T finishes.

Masking tape a line up from the furthest right point of the T and stick the 3 to end bang on with this line!

Sorry I should have stipulated that the template I used for the quarter panel stickers, not the boot. (ETA: I actually did say that the template was for the quarter panels in my post, have another look :tongue3:)

And Andreas - The W1 was the only one to not have infilled stickers.

Ah I see. Not sure if i'm going to use it as i'm not that keen on the infill. I bought the last group buy of decals on here and probably will still use them.
