Anyone know the going rate for a new rack?

Don't think you can get new ones anymore, so you are looking at refurbishing an old rack....
Last time I got a quote or a new on, it was the wrong side of 180. Second hand is the only cost effective way.

Are they available through parts distro's? Body shop has identified a leak, whilst the car is in bits it seems sensible to replace the rack. Time, however is somewhat against me.
I think most of them now are recon units, the problem you'll have is getting a supplier to get you a Williams one not a standard one. Gave up in the end and went second hand.

I thought they were universal, just the track rod ends that were different?

No, it's the track rods that are different between valver & willy racks, the track rod ends are the same, well the male ones anyway
Just had a look on our system, got two different racks, differences are length, tie rod ends and the input shaft diameter. Which I would have thought it would be wider if so can get for about £130 refurbished, if shorter, can only get it from another supplier and like you say its the wrong side of £180
