Pwn is an abbreviation of 'pwned', which is l33t speak for 'owned', which when used in the context of gaming means you have been beaten, usually badly, by someone or something.

It has filtered into everyday conversation amongst people of a certain sub-culture, and is not restricted solely to computer game activity.
