My girlf's brother is looking for a new car, but isn't sure what to get. He's just come back from working away, so is changing from his f reg Fiesta 1.1 he's had for the past 7 odd years! He's willing to spend about £5k, nothing too extreme, he's not overly into cars but wants something smart, upto about 6 years old and with a bit of sportiness (although after the fiesta, anything is going to seem pretty quick!). He liked the Williams but it was older than what he wants.

He's been looking at 206 XSI (1.6 16v) and 206 GTI.

I've also suggested MG ZR, Corsa SRi, Punto HGT, Mk2 172 and 206 Grand Tourisme (which would be my personal choice).

He's not really liked any of those though apart from the MG. Anyone think of anything that might be of interest?? Think i'm only really coming up with cars that interest me!

Something sporty? Not too extreme? Great looking? Handles well?

Yep, Puma.

Or Saxo VTR/S, mk1 172

I had suggested the puma actually, along with megane coupe, but apparantly they're "too girly".

I like the zetec s fiestas, but the only cars he's ever had are a mk1 and mk2 fiesta, so he wants a change (although the newer ones are a world apart from what he's used to!).

Keep the ideas coming though

306 XSI. Very good cars and almost as good as the GTI-6 IMO.

Dont want him getting a Punto GT, thats next on my list for when the Williams goes.

306 could be a good idea, just thought about the 307 aswell, there's a 51 plate 2.0 xsi on autotrader for £5k.

The Impreza and Clio for sale are too old.... but that looks like a bargain Clio! Anyone jonw what its like? Anything need doing to it?

Think the sleeper Clio belongs to j3ned. We have got our own thread about the car here. You can go ask him.

I wouldn't touch the 307 with a stolen dick mate. Horrible.

My mate had a 206 XSi, and now has a 206 GTi 140 and they are both nice cars. The GTi is top spec, and is very comfy to drive in and its quite fast. The handling is very good aswell.

See ya

As Mervin said, 307s are absolute dog turd. So are 206s really.

How about....

Mk4 Golf GTi
Audi A3 1.8T
Astra Mk4 Coupe Astra SRi or GSi
Alfa 147 2.0
Focus ST170
Seat Ibiza Curpa
Puma (good shout!)
Fiesta Zetec S (and another!)
Toyotal Celica VVTi
Pug 406 Coupe (another good call!)
Hyundai Coupe

Some of them aren't all that great to drive, but have something to offer :D
