When you turn either left or right mainly on full lock and a bit in between i am getting a loud knocking/banging noise from the front of the car from the alternator/power steering pump area any ideas,i have just had the timing belt & aux belt & water pump replaced dont know if this has caused the problem. :(

Could be the PAS pump about to shit itself & die

Sounds like the belt isn't tight enough.

ai sounds like a skipping belt

get someone to turn the wheel for you and watch for it skipping on the pulleys in the bay.

Should be 6pk1013.

Also check PAS fluid levels. Top it up with slick50 PAS fluid, then lock to lock the steering to remove air from PAS system. Top up.

Only a small amount of play with the AUX belt should be evident.

Mat, coops you were both spot on ive never seen a belt jump around like that before,is there any easy way to tighten the belt without striping half the car down again. :(

What you might find is the teeth have sheared at the back of the adjuster.

as above, common fault

i got round it on my old clio by taking the small triangular support bracket off the alternator and spacing the main top one from the block using washers and a long bolt, but theres only so much slack you can take in so may have to get a shorter belt

otherwise its cut down an alan key and wedge into the adjuster pully and get a sleeve/rod onto it then spanner in there too. can be done without removing much, just a bit fiddly

Thanks for all the replys problem now fixed you were right about the teeth been sheared off 3 of the 6 teeth were gone so i just kept with the slighty long belt and it now runs fine with no knocking.
