Any tyres that people would reccommend for the Willy? I've gone Conti Contact Sports on every car I've had for the last 5 years (although that was a 172 and two 197s). Only for the road, but would rather go premium.

Also, what size do people go for? I understand that people change the size and profile against the originals for better handling and cheaper rubber?

Thanks

If you do a search you will find several threads on this with many different opinions!
For road I use michelin pilot exalto which are great all rounders, in 185/55 (from Camskill) which you would like to think Renault designed the suspension round, though it is made from various bits out of the parts bin.
Many people use 195/50 which tend to be £20-30 cheaper as many more cars use them. They give a little more grip slightly better acceleration slightly less fuel consumption and @ 80 mph you pull about 200rpm more.
I even tried a set of 205 on the front once but they rub on full lock and were a bit overkill tbh. :-)

I use Michelin PE2's for road and Toyo R888 for boost :-)]

always in 195/50 R15 flavour for all, perfect imo, look sexier than the 185/55's and handle/ride combo is about spot on :-)

82V or H speed rating?

On black circles or camskill they seem to be about £58 per corner which is amazing!! Does that sound right?

The Conti 3s on my 197 Cup were £130 per corner (fitted though!!)

My personal preference is yokohama parada as they're plenty good enough and pretty cheap but you're clearly intent on spending a bit more money so the contis you've used in the past or the michelin pilot exalto's are what I'd suggest

Should read it through twice! Was meaning fuel economy not consumption!
That wont bother coops though I seen him drive that looney mobile ! lol, though agree he looks sexier on 195s ;-)

They need to be v rated. The price sounds right. I get mine fitted by friendly local place. Prob cost £7-10 each with valves and balance. Lot cheaper than going to q/fit but could argue more hassle. I get asked if the're legaly obtained sometimes! Lol.

Car was originally put on 185/55's.... As already said, most now run on 195/50's due to being much cheaper.... I've run both on mine...

195's give more grip, ride is harsher due to lower profile, car looks better...

185's, the car feels more edgy, rides much better though and has better steering feel

Lots of discussions about the pros & cons of both sizes - you pays your money, you take your choice!!

Im running 195/50/15 michelin pilot PE2 tyres and have been very impressed with the results. The fronts have only lasted 8k but thats probably my driving, will be getting another 2 to go with the 2 untouched ones on the back.

Just to add i came from the standard size 185/55/15 tyres to these and cant say ive noticed any major difference long term other than they look 100 times better than the originals.

If you do change to 195/50's PE2's be carefull at first as the turn in is a lot faster than with the 185/5's nearly caught me out anyway :D

i find the overall performance of the 195/50's far superior to the 185/55, but its not always been a fair test as both times I've gone from firestone 185's to Michelin pe2 195's. once on a Williams and once on the 172. that for grip, turn in, feel, everything

don't find much difference in ride quality, maybe a tad harsher on the 50 profile but hardly noticeable imo with even standard suspension. but again perhaps not a true test as my cars are almost invariably 'tired'

the silly boost mobile doesn't count, so I don't factor this into the tyre test, its harsh and always on R888's = awesomeness! :-)

h rated are cheaper and to be honest will do the williams, thinks they are rated upto 140mph i think and v's are 140mph and over. am running hankooks evos s1 cost me about £45 a tyre, but then again i work for a tyre shop n got um trade :D have no trouble with them.

I always use V's but kinda need them on the turbo ;-)

As far as I understand all the letters up to H rise in 10kph steps and the V and up increase at 30kph each time.
Max speed H rated 130mph, V rated 149mph.
(H rated may not let go as long as you dont go over the speed/weight rating) but I very much doubt the Police/Insurers/mot etc will be persuaded.

Not that I am advocating putting the H's on, but I can't see the Police or insurers having an interest - there aren't any roads in the UK where they would allow you to be going 130mph anyway.

I liked my Toyo R1R's...

The Advan Neova AD08's I have at present are good too but ultimately less grippy, softer sidewall...but are noticeably superior in the wet to the R1R's.

I did notice a slight loss of finesse when going from 185/55 to 195/50's.

Great shout in the tyres chaps. Four brand new Michelin PE2s today in 195/50/15V fitment. Definitely feel the grip, but they look miles better on the car. Friend of mine owns a garage so all four fitted and balanced for £60 a wheel! :D

Im looking a new ones, and looking for a performance road tyre, and the PE2's are coming out top - Iv not tried them but have heard great things, but the Yoko's are near half the price - are the PE2's that much better?

Bring back my GSD3's :(

I've always been told that cheaper tyres are a false economy. Tbh, the only bit of the car I'd buy the most expensive option I can afford.

What fitment are you looking at as as can't imagine Yoko's are near half price. On Camskill or Blackcircles, PE2s are only £55 per cornerish.

Peeps on here advised me to go from 185/55 to 195/50. Look better, grip harder, theoretically better acceleration. And much cheaper too as much more common size.

Running 195/50's mate, not quite half the price but I can get yoko's for just under 35 quid each...

Up to you bud, times are tough, but for an extra £80, I'd go the PE2s.

I've always put Conti Contact Sport 3s on my 197 as designed for the car. Changed to a budget tyre once... Never again!! Terrible compared to the recommended tyre.

I have 185/55 Toyo Proxes. I dislike them. I will be going back to PE2's

Not much of a friend if he charged you £240 to fit and balance some tyres!
