Hi guys,

Anyone has experience with oil coolers? And prticularly including a thermostat.

Some guys in NL have trouble with wining sounds using a thermostatted oil cooler. They say the oil pump isnt strong enough.

Clio cup and megane cup are using a thikker heat exchanger for instance..

A friend of mine had similar problem with his Mocal cooler and sandwich plate. The thermostat didn't work, it was opened constantly, the cold oil had to be passed through the cooler.

I've got one fitted with a thermostatic sandwich plate from rally design and have no issues

I think they are a waste of space, time and weight.

That would depend on the spec of the engine really.

I've got a mocal cooler on mine & I can't fault it, I can consistently hammer the living shit out of my car on track for long periods of time on hot days without worrying about the temperature.
I've been on track with people who have limited their time on track by what the oil temp is saying whereas I can just keep going for much longer if I want to

Well that's a good answer Paddy! But do you have it internally statted or statted between the lines or none at all?

I'm going to run mine pretty much always on the street but would like to give it the beans on track some times without having to worry...

Sorry to jump the thread but they would be a blessing on long motorway runs in warmer climates also.

Mine has a thermostat inside the sandwich plate

I've noticed the difference on mine just in normal driving, and when giving it beans, once the hermostat opens the oil just sits at a nice level temp and doesn't go higher, no matter how hard you push it

Well, that's proof that it does work. Don't know why people had problems woth them.
Do you have a 13 row cooler?
I bought myself a 16row just to be sure. Thermostat will hold the right temp anyway :)

Works fine on the f7p engine just remember to put extra oil in to compensate for the extra capacity and make sure you have the correct thermostat temp:D

When i did my oil changes i topped it up, ran it and then checked again once thermostat had been open, and made next to **** all difference to the oil level.

Can't remember what size mine is, its quite a large one as a brought it off my mate how had brought it and then never used it.

I want to fill the cooler and hoses with oil and then connect them...
If you don't theres a lot of air that has to come out!

But if i read this right i could just fit it. Maybe someone had a faulty sandwich...

I just fitted mine, and filled up with oil as normal

Same here

As for the extra oil, I made good use of that on track, I was a tad upset that my rings were shot & I was burning quite a bit of the stuff  looked at the dipstick on minimum & considered quitting for the day then remembered there must be about another litre of oil in the cooler etc so went out for another session :driving:

Then bass_direct showed up with a bottle of oil that merely cost me a passenger ride & off we went for more fun right up to the end of the day :D
