the following are supposedly young driver specialists
quinn-direct
coverbox.co.uk
4youngdrivers.co.uk

Has he tried fully comp as it seems to be cheaper than tpft at the minute for some strange reason, also increasing car value can lower premiums
hope this helps

insurance is definitely ridiculous these days!! I did mine a few years ago and everyone who was 17/18 including myself had policies with quin-direct.

NFU mutual used to do young drivers and the price was reasonable but they stopped that just as I began to drive. Quin was the only option really. Admiral not too bad, especially if you do multicar policy.

Hope this helps

Pass plus used to give 1 years NCB instantly - do that or equivalent first.

wonderful when no claims actually used to mean something! lol!

is this insurance lark actually going to come to a head at some point as i see more and more threads popping up all the time about the rediculous nature of the costs of insurance? i can feel a tide starting to perhaps turn and people actually starting to question the legitimacy of the extortionate prices the insurance companies charge for the cover.

Young drivers are a massive liability, they have a lack of experience by definition, and worse still are frequently irresponsible on top of that, a bad combination if you are someone who is being asked to take on the liability for all the carnage they might cause in a year.

The only way young drivers premiums are going to drop, is if they stop crashing left right and centre all the time.

Elephant/admiral etc are good, add an older named driver will bring the price down by a hell of a lot, also if parents etc have a car, try putting all the cars on a multi car policy, know a few people who have done this and not only did it mean cheaper insurance for parents but also cheaper for kids. Multicar will work as long as cars are registered to the same address, can be registered to any number of different people

The adding a parent as a named driver is a good tip.

I found that one out by accident about 15 years ago, I wanted to borrow one of my parents cars and I figured as I was leaving my car at their place I may as well add my mum to it in case she needed to use it.
So I phoned up to get her added, and they added her then sent me a cheque!

I kept her on the policy for years after that as an occasional use named driver :)

i think its more the fact that a hell of a lot of drivers are driving uninsured. that and all the bogus claims etc. there was 1 case a while back where a bus/coach crashed, and there were something like 40 odd claimants, when there were only 20 odd passengers. unfortunately its mainly young ppl that make these claims, especially it seems in the minorities. this isnt racist btw.
