Some say You can fix anything with gaffer tape and/or WD40....
It is certainly true to some extend.

I have been searching for a long time for a single skin carbon fibre bonnet - with no success :(
To prove how badly i need to have a carbon fibre bonnet in my life this is what happened today. To my excuse it happened under the influence of too much sugar!

My mate got sick and tired of me talking about carbon fibre bonnets all the time. As you may know - the above flow chart has been circulating the web for a long time. Inspired from this and the sugar overdose we created a wannabe carbon fibre/gaffer tape bonnet for The Orange!

Our excuse - the sugar overdose!

And the creative stuff... Please note the flow optimized throttle body induction bonnet "cut out" design and the Aerocatch bonnet/tape securing things....

....and now i hear you say - what about the WD40....
Well - HQ gaffer tape sticks like nothing else. WD40 is actually great for removing gaffer tape glue residue from surfaces.... (the glue was everywhere!)

Gaffer tape and WD40 put to good use...
Now please help me find me a CARBON FIBRE BONNET! :D

Thank you Leigh-Anne....
I really appreciate your help in sorting a bonnet for me!

The duct tape solution is not really the best option... :D

Got this the other day - and fitted today! :-)
Question is...
- Should i make holes where the bonnet vent normally is located - or just leave it as is?
- Make holes in the front of the bonnet to let in the nice cold air - or a different solution?

I'd leave it as-is and arrange some cold air induction piping. I reckon if you have a cutout it'll just look like the ITB filter didn't fit, and you had to cut to make it fit. Does that make sense?

How does the weight compare with the original one?

I does.. :-)
But unless i make a closed scuttle induction system - the piping needed will be a mess - and not effective enough (i believe)
I used to have 4 carbon funnels in the std. bonnet for direct air to the filter.
Carbon box from Reverie or something similar might be an option....

I did not weigh it yet - but it is significantly lighter.
Even with the aerocatches attached.
Will do though! :-)

How hard was it to cut out the gaps for the bonnet catches?

cliokongen

Easy...

The measuring is the critical part of the job.
Fit the bonnet pins to the car first - at the approximate hight the are going to sit. Important due to the angle the might end up sitting at.

Fit the bonnet over the pins (still no holes so far)
Make sure the pins make a mark on the inside of the bonnet.
Make a sligtly larger hole than needed for the pin to go through.

Adjust the hight - must protrude.
Fit the aerocatch with template.
Align - cut - and trim....

Adjust hight of pins - fit rubberseats to the pins...

Job done!
