Williams starter motor vs lesser models ?

I know the 16v starter dont fit and I remember reading about the starter motors from lesser model (1.4 ) clios fitting the f7r engine but having some sort of problem with engaging on the starter ring gear ??

can anyone confirm this please ?

Dont know about the 1.4 but the 1.8 one will fit if you grind a bit off where it fouls on the block, I used one when I needed one for a trackday the next day and didnt have time to source a williams one.

I have tried but isn't it more then a bit?

Have been grinding with the angle grinder for a while but still didn't fit...
I have enough gtt and 1.8 starters but no 2.0 and am in need of one for my low boost 2.0 engine

I cant remember the exact amount I ground off now, just remember that I did so and it worked.

Hhhmmm maybe the Megane f7R differs at that place :wink:

IIRC I dressed the block back slightly as well as the starter, was quite a while ago now and only done it the once, so cant really recall the details :(
