Tell me if im just being silly, but...

I just got another Williams a couple of weeks ago, and being older and hopefully wiser have not been thrashing the balls of it. But today when i gave it the beans i got just over a ton and it seem there was nothing less in her. Its got a sports exhaust with a de-cat and a air filter.

I know my old 1 had a lot of engine work done but cant remember it being that bad top end when standard.

????????????

yeah your being silly :P aint got much left in it after a ton, you need the longest straightest piece of tarmac ever for that...

I sold the last 1 in 2005, i had a lot of engine work done and it could do a genuine 140mph and get there really quick too.

Just got a feeling somthing isnt right. I can remember hit 120 easy standard..

I can get to 110 very easily usually when I'm in a hurry to get home from work. I havent pushed it any further as I try and respect the 100k, 16 year old girl. Dont forget how old these cars are now plus they will have been raped by the previous owners, after all thats what they were built for :D

Ive pushed my Williams 2 up to 125 once - and it did it no problem with no power loss until I took my foot off the gas.

It has a K&N & sports exhaust.

just trying to work out what the power loss could be.

Any ideas.??????

try giving it a full service with top quality items including a fuel filter etc, you will be amazed what that can achieve alone, my car at 85k miles will fly up to a ton and keep going until about 130 although it needed a longer stretch the last time I tried it :) as above they are getting old now so going over a ton is a bit disrespectful.

This is a good idea, but there may be other things causing it like dirty injectors or mis-reading sensors. How old is the backbox? Any blockage in the exhaust will limit the power as well.

They arent especially fast cars as standard once you get into fifth gear.

its just had a full service with cambelt change too. the only other thing i can think of is that its got the idle problem when you go over 4000rpm, maybe thats giving false readings.

20-10-2011, 13:07
it wont be idling at 4k hehe.

I guess if they timed it wrong it would be a bit pants.

Its hard to say really without driving it!

My Willy will do 140 - no problems. K&N panel, proper exhaust and a Gunner chip.

My car hits the limiter in 5th gear at almost 150mph!!!!!!!!!

No, it was just being done few thousand miles ago.
It's not something willy's like, top speed. But it's OK to try like I did.

HOT, they are so damn HOT. Oil gets to 130C when I floor it in 5th!

Speedo is probably over reading, have you checked it against satnav?

sclark2604
20-10-2011, 15:22
have thought about doing that. think it could also be the speedo cable as that would explain my idle problems as well.

Really need some to have a look at it but have not got anyone local with the williams knowlegde if you know what i mean.

Yes it overreads at 230-235 km/h it's 220-223 km/h ;)

That makes more sense.

Seemed like it was geared wrong otherwise as the speed didnt seem to tie up with the revs.

130!?

That's pretty darn hot I think? Hope you use good oil...

Markic

That's OK Wobba. Yes, I use Motul V300 15W50.
Normal operating OIL temp on a Willy is between 90-120.
130 is still OK, but slow down and cool down the car. 140 is critical, but still there is space to cool it off. Willys have shit heat exchanger, no oil cooler, so they are running really hot.

Ive seen those sort of temps on my car too on track, and it led to lower oil pressure as a result, I swapped to Motul 300V though which is specifically designed to operate at those sort of temps without a problem and that improved things.
An oil cooler would be a good idea though really!

Yup also running the 300v and a cooler had a dramatic effect 8)

Ive had 150mph on the clocks a few times with no problems or especialy long roads- speedo is 5mph out according to the satnav. Goes like stink all the way there to be fair

Decat, Full stainless, green panel filter, unknown chip & special air intake mod.

If yours is struggling try a damn good service before all else then go from there.

Maybe a possibility the engine may not be a williams engine maybe a valver?

how do you tell the difference between the 2.??????

There is a plate on the front of it near the dipstick that will say F7P or F7R, or you can take a plug out, poke a rod down the hole, and slowly turn the crank over by hand and measure the stroke.

Look at the back of the block to see if the strengthening vanes / veins are there

Thats cause you dont have the horrific lag that most people on here are afflicted with which lasts all the way to the limiter, lol

I once made 235 km/u with a standard jc5-014 at 7000rpm. With a jb3-048 i hit the limiter (7100rpm / gunner chip) at 220 km/u
