I Have noticed a rattle on my engine over the last couple of days, it seems to be only when the engine is up to temp and only when loaded above 4000rpm. also if it helps when driving it seems to be around the dash area.
Thanks.

BUMP
Does it change with different revs?

Yes it changes with the rev's, as in higher rev's the higher the note of the rattle.
Is it like a fluttery metallic ringing sound?

Sounds about right. its not loud actually quite feint, but you know its there.
Could be numerous things really. I'd presume one of the following though:
Exhaust downpipe heatshield. The screws get loose and make a god awful rattle.
Hole/crack in exhaust manifold. This can make some weird noises as the manifold gets hot and the crack/hole expands.
Broken valve spring maybe? Not heard this before, but tbh you'd probably hear this even more when cold.

Ive got this problem with mine also, seems to be coming from below the steering wheel were the headlight adjuster is. I put it down to a heat shield but it only does it once in a blue moon and not all off the time.

Yes had a look.
Its not the heat sheild and nothing else that i can see is loose or something to cause the rattle.
The Exhaust is all ok as well. Think it night be somthing internal or the start of the tappets getting noisey.
Will have to leave it till the weekend and have a better look then.
Usually tappets are at their worst when cold, unless they are truly f*cked and just make a huge noise most of the time, like mine used too.
One noise that took me a long time to locate was a vibrating rattle at certain revs. it had me stumped for months, until I swapped my manifold for a Supersprint one.
This is where the OEM Williams manifold cracks:

If you can get a recording of the noise and upload it? Is it only when the car is moving or when it is being revved and stationary?

Ah thats interesting. My manifold is wrapped in heat tape so could be hiding anything :) The whole exhaust is knackered to be fair, im gona change it and see were i stand then probably get grp.N exhaust mounts at the same time also. Doesnt help that ive got a knackered engine/gearbox mount which ive got to locate tomorrow...caused me no end of little annoying problems that one :?
