Ok bit of a problem with the idea of towing the Williams. Sems trailers weight about 300kgs now add this to a 980kg full weigt Willim an'm well over the 1.2 limit for an Ibiza.
Anyone any idea how heavy a Williams realy weight, particualy a very light one.
Fo those of you that don't know the cars missing
interier
carpets
two buckets seats (must weight less than stock)
spare tyre.
stereo/speakers
door cards
foglights
Roll cage would be going in.

I'm going to have to rethink my ideas if I cannot get it under 800 for towing realy a I'd like about a 10% safety margin. The car wouldn't need a battery but its a pain having to stick it back in.

Yep, agreed with Rich. Getting something bigger otherwise it'll be wheezing its little nuts off.

This may help mate....

You'll notice there aren't any small hatch backs in there :P

I was looking at a Sat Ibiza FR which does appear also appears here
http://www.caravanmagazine.co.uk/content/cc_tcoty_05.htm
Ironically the sites recomend the same cars.
Not driving a corolla or berlino never mind how good they are.
Vectra V6 diesel is an option £12k for a year old model with 13k or so on the clock from motorpoint in sri spec but its not me is it I want a fun light hot htch or similar not a door dad car (I'm still single so no need to rush me) it not like its an RS6 et even which might convince me. Plus its group 11 insurance so that another £400 a year insurance or so than the FR at group 7. Plus hows something that big going to look going round the ring.
I wish my parents would let me use the Forester for the once a month I'd need it then I could sort one problem out and get a 172 or something then again a 172 costs about £1.2k extra over a FR Sat per year.
I hate problems.

when i weighed my williams with me in it on the local builders weigh bridge it came out at exactly 1100kg, so i think the williams is about 1010kg, this was with low fuel just above the red light [e].

i think you could get it down to 920kg through stripping it.

I think realistically around 900kgs will be about the lightest it can come down to, but not with a substantial cage in as well.

The cage alone in mine weighs around 45kgs. I have never weighed mine, but reckon its probably just a smidge under the ton, even with all the underbody gaurding, fire system and cage.

When you consider your towing weight (I assume for trackdays) dont forget all the extra weight that tools, wheels fluids etc add to the equation.

Buy an older E34 and stop fannying around looking at modern lightish hatchbacks.

An E34 like this :P

Like the RS2, LHD, so perfect for those cross continental escapades :P . As Mark as, stop fannying around and buy a proper car 8)

Your all evil posting links to cool cars like that temping me.

But no realisically I need a diesel and a cheap to run one with a warently.

I don't want a big car or one without a warently I'v had it with unwarenied cars.

However it seems the Ibiza has a deicint ability to tow compared with other cars. A Laguna dci at £8k sounds (motorpoint) good but is a basic spec and its till only rated to to a few more KG's

Forget powerful petrols a quick calculation and I workd out that driving a diesel to germany an back was £140 cheaper than a petrol which is a big saving even over a year in fuel its a going to save me about £1.1k that a lot of money pl a powerful petrol will cost on insurance like mad.

Ooops just checked I've got a new licence I though that limited me to 3.5 tones seems not an I cannot to according to he dvla unless I've passed a test.

Arrr this is turning into a right problem.

Don't get a small hatch. Whatever the power output the short wheelbase and light weight counts against it.

Why d'you want a warranty BTW?

You could always buy an aftermarket warranty anyway. About £250 a year I think.

for a towing car id get an old banger with a big-ish turbo diesel engine, then put a 200 quid chip on it to add 50% torque and 30% more power.

sorted :)

In most cases a good aftermarket warranty will cover just about everything anyway. motorcarewarranties.com are about the best ones out there IMO.

Craig had the nana on a weighbridge at 880kgs I think.

thats without the std tank though isnt it? even so not a great deal in it i would of thought myself, pos 900kg fully stripped?

Mark_Ritchspeed

No cage in the Nana though. Even a 6point cage is around the 30 kilo mark. By the time you add some plates to the floor and weld them in you will struggle to get below 900. I could probably get mine down to around 900kgs, if I fitted a smaller tank, removed all the gaurding and did away with the firesystem, intercom etc.
