As promised latest Rally footage from the 2011 Promenade stages at New Brighton. After a great rally at Anglesey a few weeks earlier with 7 O/A and just piped to a class win by a Honda engine Elise (damn it was quick in a straight line!) we were all set to go for what is one of my favourite rallies.

Entry (full 90 cars) 6R4s, WRC, S1600s etc

We were car 17

Only new mods to the car apart from running new ds3000 pads all round and Ohlin’s suspension so was playing around a bit all day and took a few stages for the pads to bed in properly but were very good.

It started with a super special stage on the Friday nigh and with no lamp pod it was a hairy stage and were running 19th O/A…must get a pod.!!

Started the second day and we were flying and really enjoying the shorter morning stages and on the pace with the leading class cars. We got up to second in class but the afternoon brought longer stages and we didn’t have any harder tyres so they were going off and losing time. To add to that we had a few drama with a stripped clutch cable, over heating brakes and no 1st and reverse gear (had to take the hairpins in 2nd which was losing us time out of the slow corner – see the Mk2 passing us in the video but it was a 2.4 300hp sequential car that finished 5th O/A I think, has a cracking scrap on stage). The 2 litre class (all the top 5 Mk2’s just in our class had sequential boxes – everyone has them now and many have paddle shift!!!) was probably the best yet I have come across and the Escort that won the class was quite frankly an awesome piece of kit and first time I have seen it out, he deserved it. 2nd in class was a S2000 engine Mk2 who on the longer stages in the afternoon took the place off us due to the above dramas, so we had to settle with 3rd in class and 11th O/A. Was made up with the result though as we had some bad luck last year but that was all forgotten, great day..! First FWD by a long way too…

TLC required before the next event.

Hope you enjoy the video, some of me and then the award winners…..

Car looks well Steve, and corners well   that Dolomite is a pain in the A@@E,although on the clips he did not seem to hold you up   .More than can be said at Anglesey on our event    .
Good result against the Mk.II's but £50k against yours never going to be an equal fight is it ....makes your result even more credible 8) 8) 8) .That said you had to use a Lancashire (Clitheroe) co-driver ha ha   .
Had you forgotten,I have a lamp pod your welcome to use    Also a set of Michelins and a set of C03 Kuhmos all on rims 8) 8) 8)
Well done.

Nice! Some lovely cars there.

I guess that is still using the Oreca exhaust? Sounds like it :)

What's your limiter set at, and how is the gearbox holding up?

Limiter at 7900k

Oreca exhaust fitted although it was blowing badly as we caught the exhaust on the service ramp.!

Gearbox has always been fine (touch wood) but solid engine mounts have really help but dont even think about it on a road car!! genuine renault repar kit always used though. We have snapped the Gripped diff in half but thats been uprated now with new design and material from John etc. Snapped a few shafts (16v ones are like twigs) and one genuine williams one.
