Big thanks to bass for today! For dropping off boot and then unexpectedly bringing me some willwoods aswell! What a legend! Especially as he drove from Essex to Dorset for 8am!

MatBrown
02-09-2011, 16:21
Have you checked under the bottom of the windscreen?
zmaster2k
02-09-2011, 16:29
yep its there too lol...but we knew about that...........  Made my group A scuttle induction sound tremendous
very nice - will look forward to seeing the repair pieces go in......
Surely you would be better off finding a better shell to start with?
MatBrown
04-09-2011, 00:09
I know i would.
zmaster2k
04-09-2011, 08:19
Yep I would of been! However, the car has already been prepped all over! Besides it's only costing me another £300 as it is, which I'm more than happy to pay for for a rust free shell.
All the rust is on the drivers side which is a tad odd!
While it will be rust free, it will also be a patchwork quilt of repair panels, i'd still be looking at a different shell, especially given how long you are likely to keep it.

04-09-2011, 11:16
If done properly and all welds seamlessly ground back then it will be good, buy another shell of the same age and it could be rusty elsewhere

04-09-2011, 11:31
It's a Cill and a front wing...not the end of the world :-)
Hope it all goes to plan and nothing else gets unearthed.
zmaster2k
04-09-2011, 15:25
Fingers crossed, we've given the car a good going over carpets are out etc, the only other bit is a rusty heatsheild on the exhaust elbow and the scuttle but we knew about them. S'all good :-)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/zmaster2k/Respray%20Time/a7b19dc3.jpg
coming along now - did u use the full 1.2 sill
Cool. Glad the skuttle is sorted!
This is pretty much the work needed to get mine where I'd like it to be, i've got rust in the same places pretty much, although haven't checked the floorpan
I did notice at the weekend though that one of the mounting points for the aux fuel tank had rusted so badly the bolt securing it fell out.. so had to cable tie that up for now
zmaster2k
19-09-2011, 13:32
The 1.2 sill Is longer than the 16v item so needed modification in order to fit. But the lack of 16v sills means it the only option.
Hopefully soon to have paint on
We are going to patch some re-informing plates on both sills just for a bit of added strength......hopefully that's the end of the rust!!!......well for now anyway! Lol suspect it will be back in a few years.... It's inevitable
coming along now - did u use the full 1.2 sill
You thinkin what im thinkin
looks good dude, remeinds me of mine not long back. will be good in the end 8)
zmaster2k
21-09-2011, 18:19
What you two thinkin?
Yeh hopefully apparently he's just put etch primer on what ever that is ready to put the whole car into primer for the weekend! Yay!!!
The 1.2 sill is dead straight
The 16v/williams kinks out just after the door (to allow for the wide arch) and the bottom section changes shape.
still looks good.... Just Northy has made me OCD
zmaster2k
22-09-2011, 13:22
Yes this has been cut and adjusted to suit! Lol

29-09-2011, 06:46
As you can see I seem to of gone over my photobucket bandwidth..... I assume this will sort it's self out at the end of the month.
Saw car last night, door shuts, boot shut, engine bay, boot lid inner, door insides and front wings are all painted :-D
The paint itself i was quite worried I had made the wrong choice, but now I've seen it on the car and seen the depth and richness of the paint I know I've made the right choice. The finish in the bay is better than some of the bodywork finishes ice seen in new Renault sports!
Should collect her Monday (the beginning of my week off) and start putting her back together! Yay!
Will put pics up then :-)
Also my final bill is less than expected! Bonus!
what colour have u gone for ?
zmaster2k
29-09-2011, 13:57
A renault colour :-)

02-10-2011, 12:53
Right here come the next pics! The colour wa decided months ago, with conversations with paddy, Danny@519, Snowman, gaz and ronee...as always this lot are my rocks!
the colour is Renault D60 Lunar Grey, as seen on the clio v6 and the megane R.26.R. I was going to be the only clio to be in this colour until i saw a thread on cliosport recently where a clio200 had be sprayed this colour! My heart sank a little.... but im still satisfied with the choice..especially since seeing it on the car...
anyway enough talk... here is the inspiration...

nice work buddy! loving your work. :D
almost makes me want to sort my old whore out...almost...
glad someone has finally done this colour - being trying to get jesus to paint his 172 this colour for years!
Those last pictures are such poor quality you may as well have drawn them in ms paint.
borrow a phone from someone that has been made in 1995 or later for the next set please.
pics taken from the pug 106?
cheers!
Well, done, if you get it right it will look spectacular.

It looks great mate! :) Although orange bits need to be painted red. Orange just don't fit in IMHO.
Nice colour choice!!! there is a Gt3 like that, it's lush.
Strange painting technique though? Painting the shuts with no feather edge tape?
Did they flat them back to the edge before painting the whole car?
zmaster2k
04-10-2011, 22:06
I'd assume so Im quite picky...there seems to be no join/edge if any kind...
It still has to go back to the shop for a final flat and polish. But I needed car this week as I've got holiday to take!
Got any plans for the engine while its out?
zmaster2k
05-10-2011, 12:27
Quick service, clutch, pivot bush think that's it really.
Shouldn't need anything else lol didn't really do many miles last year so not alot to do.
Ah, I was thinking more in terms of either a turbo to cure the lag, or some high comp pistons and steel rods and a set of ITBs to at least make it a little more bearable while keeping with the lag.

Well got the lump in this evening, not without her issues though! Firstly opened the garage to find my drip tray was knocked over....meaning oil literally everywhere! Alas a trip to the co-op to buy done cat litter!
Anyway, managed to get the engine in with my father in law! Great help! Much easier with 2 people!
Used snowmans towel method......gotta be honest didn't think this would work.... But what I fool i was to doubt this! Genuinely worked!
There was a scratch but on a really really unlikely place!

Christ! He's just as anal as you pair with the engine detailing
He's just being a complete cock teasing mofo & witholding the pics of it looking shiney after cleaning it all because it's not shiney enough :P
Deffo needed cleaning before dropping it in imo
Fuk me, that alternator mount is going to knock mate. Can you shift the engine back a bit? Get some touch up paint or at the very least some nail varnish on that paint damage, will rot the whole car from the inside out before you know it!

Ooooh! Black bits have appeared on teh bonnet :D
Looks horrible and plain still at the moment, but im looking forward to seeing it with all the finishing touches done etc :)
I hate to say it but i'm not a massive fan of the colour yet.
Love the fact you've put so much time and effort into keeping her alive though!

I kinda like the plain-ness kinda why it went the colour it us...but not sure what to do to jazz it up? Suggestions?
TBH I think just not being in a grey garage with no number plate will help.
Its not exactly a picture showing it at its best yet.
Bit of red or similar might help though I reckon, but colours are a very personal choice.

Maybe red/blue/orange rims and mirrors? Something like Porsche GT3RS... :P

Will have a think! It's not up there on the priority list yet lol
I think dark greys/anthracite and carbon would set it off well.
The Lunar Grey is set off well with the R26R carbon bonnet I reckon, so maybe follow that theme.
Make sure you sort out the skuttle panel and bonnet scoop as well, either very dark grey (subtle) or gloss black. Same with the wing mirrors.
I love that colour mate , and agree with wobba black/carbon very subtle and stealthy , although I can see the attraction of red/orange aswell. :D

Not quite the same colour, but same theme:

http://www.theexpensivecars.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/lamborghini-reventon-pictures-1024x682.jpg
Trumps the Porker I reckon ;)
The colour scheme on the porsche is adding a lot of life to a relatively plain design, where as the lambo is so heavily styled anyway it doesnt need it.
I think the Clio has more in common with the understated porsche than the lambo TBH, so I think if you recreated both looks on the clio, the porsche one would suit it better.

It looks really good!
Maybe I would do something with the rim lip, something subtle, but I don't know what. Maybe polish it, but I'm not sure if it would look good.

A lot of these cages are total overkill in a track car, just adds loads of weight. You could get rid of many of those bars that arnt actually doing much.
zmaster2k
14-02-2012, 18:33
yep i could do..buti wont and as you pointed out in a previous thread.. im a bit of a weed anyway, and the car will be fitted with plexi glass windows and no interior so is still a lot lighter than standard and the fact the car is now very stiff is a bigger benefit.
the cage weighed in total 46kgs
that looks awesome!
where was the cage from? what sort of price has the cage come out at fitted? really wanting one for my uno turbo
