I have a standard Clio Williams 2 and I have just been on the phone to 'Rip-off Renault' to ask for a price for 4 inlet valves and 2 exhaust valves. They quoted me £145 for the inlet and £130 for the exhaust (apparently you have to buy them in packs of 4!?).

Does anyone know where I can get 'OEM' valves at a more realistic price?? Any advice is most appreciated.

I emailed RPD, just waiting for their response....

Well I got a response but I had hoped it would be alot cheaper!

Exhaust valve - set of four - £131.33 Inc Vat
Inlet valve - set of four - £117.40 Inc Vat

Is it possible to source these valves anywhere other than Renault??

GSF say they can't supply valves but i spoke to Euro Car Parts (ECP) who sell the valves and when I asked they said they were of OEM quality!

ECP prices:
Inlet valves £11
Exhaust valves £7

Has anybody reading this post bought and used valves from ECP??
The difference in price between Renault and ECP is big and I'm wondering if there is a difference in quality or are Renault just adding a big markup!?

I doubt they would be the right ones, more likely just 16v ones. Or the bigger megane ones.

exhaust iirc are the same anyway...

and easiest way is too buy megane inlet valves are get them turned down to 32mm buy a very competent machine shop..

thats the best way or buy eight and get them turned down to 32.4mm and seat done to match..

otherwise its 16 inlets and 16 seats and a lot of porting..lol

Cheers for the info guys....

I think I will order 1-inlet and 1-exhaust valve from Euro Car Parts and take them to show the engineer who is going to carry out the cylinder-head refurbishment. That way we'll be able to see if they really are 'Williams' parts and if the quality is OEM like the guy told me over the phone.

I'll post an update when I've done that......

If it's just to fix a standard Willy head, be cheaper to just get another complete used head and have it cleaned up.

They'll just be cheap aftermarket valves, wont be the same quality.

Will probably work though.

Personally I would sooner just buy secondhand genuine ones.

Buy a whole spare williams head, then you have all these bits and lots of others if you ever need them.

Yeah I decided not to risk getting the valves from Euro Car Parts, they said they had OEM Williams valves but everyone says you can only get them new directly from Renault!?

Anyway, having read several posts about APD's engine work on the Williams, I decided to contact the guys in Swansea to see if they had any used ones available. Luckily they did and they are sending me 4-inlet and 2-exhaust valves + shipping for a reasonable £60. Result!

You read about APD and then STILL wanted to contact them?

Crikey, must have read different to what I have, lol

Glad you are sorted now though :)

Expect to recieve those valves some time next year lol

Oh no, don't say that....

Anyway, the engineers that are going to be fitting the valves and skimming the head will check them over good before hand, I'll make sure of that.
I admit I am taking a risk buying 2nd hand valves but as my budget is tight I can't stretch to paying Renault prices for new valves, unfortunately.

Tbh I'm trying to fix up my Williams as cheaply as possible, trying to avoid buying stuff at Renault if I can help it. I've even taken the engine apart myself for the first time ever, which is definitely a learning curve! Good to get stuck in tho eh. Can't wait to get her back on the road...

I dont think secondhand valves are as much of a risk as EPC ones would be :)

33mm megane inlet valves can be fitted to a Williams head if the seats are modified to suit, is this correct? Just for future reference...

yes

tbh, they lap in on the standard seats ok. Seen a few heads with the odd 1 or 2 33mm valve in it and they dont cause problems. Not proper, not something I'd do, but "ok"
