Is it you that works at Renault?????

Anyway. Plugged my car into a mates diagnostics machine today as the car sometimes idles high after driving enthusiastically. Anyway it came up with *** 14 circuit - Vehicle Speed Sensor *** Where abouts is this sensor located on the car.

Many thanks.

he does work there yes, but they dont use the xr25 much as its for mk1 clios not mk2's, if you have the williams tech manual it has all the info on how to use the machine, may even tell you were it is!

if not you'll have to sit in suspence to see if he can tell you

I know what the problem is. Just need to know where to locate the ** vehicle speed sensor ** to cure the problem.

Isn't it called the road speed sensor, or similar, can also be one of teh causes of the dodfgy clio idle

I'd say it's none of the above,

I've had this on both of my Williams, and it's always been the sensor on the speedo cable at the back of the clocks.
It detects if ya still moving to keep ya revs high to change gear better.. if it comes out place or the earth's had it, everytime you go for a blast, it'll idle at about 1500rpm until you turn engine off then back on.

Clocks out then Daz?

How much is the sensor on back of clocks?

About the price of a rear wiper bolt cap?

Won't be bust, just out of place or earth needs redoing - that's what both of my Williams have anyway. My Williams 3's earth plug wasn't even plugged in - plugged it in and it was sweet - and my Williams 2's sensor was hanging about.. slotted it back in place, and that sorted that.

Now, this rear wiper cap?

Do you have to disconnect speedo cable or is there enough room to do it with it still connected?

Daz

Definetly disconnect. You need to be able to see it.

This was the problem Craig had too (Adams_16v) on his Valver.. seems to be a recurring problem, and seeing as yours says Speed Sensor, then I'm convinced it must be the same thing.. it just reads the speedo cable.

I could try this first I suppose. Wont cost anything to try.

I see in the haynes manual it refers to:- "remove the plug from speed sensor on the end of the throttle cable"

Good shout Daz.

hmm is this similar to a problem I sometimes have, where the idle drops like its gonna stall but doesn't, I've replaced the ISCV, Coolant Temp Sensor, and the Lambda will be changed today as I have a new downpipe.

Is it worth checkin my Speedo earth thingy or that road speed sensor bighp mentioned?

big hp
10-08-2005, 10:02
From the sounds of it mine might be the speed sensor Daz mentioned. If not i'll try the speed sensor the other end. Yours could possibly be the same monkey, try the speedo end first i say.

Is there an easy way to get the dash off, I really struggled on my 16v and tried on the Willy and failed, it feels like im gonna snap something when I attempt it

Craig

the speed sensor is the road speed sensor, its part of the speed cable! the earth will be fuked. usually happens when u mess with the stereo as they share the same earths! if u take the clocks out, there is a plug on the cable, earth the black wire to its ownt earth point!

the item in the pic above it the timing sensor (TDC) that usually causes intermittant starting probs rather than idle probs!

big hp

Tried all sorts behind dash today but with no joy. Earth looks ok.

I'll try earthing black earth wire on its own and see if that does anything.

big hp
10-08-2005, 18:01
Right took clocks out AGAIN, and gave the earth cable from speedo cable its own earth and it seems to of done the trick.

Took it out down some country lanes and the revs don't sit high after giving it some beans. Hopefully it'll be ok now. :D

i earthed the ****er up but my idle problems never went, so i cleaned the iscv and i was fixed.. my idle is good now.

the sensor tht goes over the flywheel senses the gaps int he flywheel for timing purposes.

big hp
10-08-2005, 18:08
Yeh its a TDC sensor. Sorts engine timing out.

I changed my ISCV but with no joy. But it doesn't matter now. :D

Daz

Nope.
They are only £2.39 or something from Renault, so might aswell just get one from there.

Glad you got ya car sorted  Easy problem to fix eh? And Free! Bonus.
