anyone tell me if the ecu's are interchangeable? just plug and play? like for like?

As far as I know they are not as the immobiliser is tied to the ECU clocks and key.

I have swapped all listed above over from a salvage car to test an engine before and all worked.

What age car is it? Is the ECU dead?

might be worth fixing the old one, google ecu doctor and they guarantee to fix it or no charge, if you cant find them pm me as i have there details somewhere,

cheers walters, will have a look. its an 02 plate 1.8 SE. car keeps going into limp mode all the time. its been rigged up and the fault its showing is the ECU. thought it might be the throttle body or the accelerator sensors, but turns out its the ECU

What code reader did you use? shame u r not nearer to me as I have vagcom. Quite often simple faults can cause the car to limp including brake light switches etc!
