Looks pretty damn close that, bit on the dark side but id put that down to the fact its a photo.

unless I plan on driving without the wheel nuts i doubht the wheel nut area makes any difference at all.

Fab, don't worry about the exact shades of gold. So long as they're close enough, it's better than the majority of scuffed up originals. Anyway, on most cars the sun has faded the original 449 paint and Speedline gold to unoriginal shades anyway!
P.S. Yes, they do look a little darker than originals :wink:

dont think i'm gonna get a closer match,and buying new ones is far too stupid.

I'd defo buy new if it wasn't for the extortionate price Renault want for 4 wheels! Will have to make do with a Proclean refurb.... :(
to dark IMHO but how can you judge them unless you can see them in the flesh! pictures always make things look different colour wise!

now that looks to bright! but as i said you cant judge cos different camera quality! and weather conditions!
What we are looking at here is a potential classic car and that will be another 10 or 15 years before/if it reaches that point.
So in my opinion anyone foolish enough to go out and buy new alloys now will only have to get them refurbished at a later stage,if they wish to keep/maintain their respective cars for monetary gain.
The car is meant to be driven and raced,none of us will dispute that fact.but pissing money away on the cosmetics is a womens thing!

yeah i do mate! i paid £200 for my refurb and i was 100% pleased with the end result! if ur happy with it mate then thats all that matters! but you can see different refurb colours at meets! especially the FCS where there was 25 williams' you could see different shades of gold among them!

maybe we should get one specialist and everyone uses him!
BTW heard from the italians that Speedline aint makin them no mo!
So whatever Reno has in stock i think thats about the last of them new.
I am pleased with these ones.
I like discussing this kinda stuff on the forum cause its important everyone keeps a mature head on their shoulders and its all for the love of the Williams. 8)

I will dispute it. I also think you are pretty ignorant if you cant understand that some people get more enjoyment out of restoring a car than driving it. Its not everyones cup of tea but id rather fit a new door seal and go for a leisurely drive, than take a trip to Anglesey to wear away my engine as fast as i can. I can understand why people do it and respect their decision, but its not my thang.

Unfortunaltely no mate. Im a restoration geek, and i dont drive fast. Youll have to put up with the likes of me on here :P

i had mine done at pro-clean, bit of a rush job and could have been a lot better if theyd spent a bit more time on em, but £150 for all four refurbed, with tyres fitted and balanced..jus goes to prove that not all cheap options are worse lol
mine were really letting the rest of the car down when i took em in, they came out the correct colour, nice and shiny again, with a silver lip instead of the corroded and kerbed lip they went in with...but like u say, the cars there to be driven, so more scratches, scuffs etc will appear, 18 months on and they still dont look too bad lol
speaking of refurbs i'm in need of getting mine done asap... Jon... help... lol

To be fair proclean did do a good job of 2lives wheels. But id be careful of the inconsistency as i beleive Gunner took some there and they got the colour wrong. Maybe they had a youth in doing the wheels that day.

as long as the wheels are'nt too dark/orange they be fine in my book..lighter is better!

When I fit them I will post photos of the original set and the refurbs side by side.

My opinion change when i saw Freds wheels next to Eddes brand ish new reno wheels and they were WAY out.
Even he admitted it. Werent even close.
Not sure who Fred is Stromba.These are the wheels off a 3 that was written off recently.Is this the car you saw back in Feb?I think I may be mistaken with the identity of these speedlines.

The wheels in that previous thread were wheels Paul Mitchel got Fred to powder coat.
So did they go onto a 1 or a 3?Seems to me they went onto a 1.In which case these are not the ones that I bought.
they look like my handywork, i refurbished them for paul
he was fully restoring Willy no 0057 but there was a "misshap" with the engine, so he sold the shell and kept the wheels i did for it in his store room
never been used since refurb
Bad News I'm Afraid.
They are way out.I didnt even fit them to the car.
They dont even come close to looking authtentic.And in the sun my original unfurbished set look so much better on the car. :cry:

Speedline told me powder coated wheels were rubbish.
Powder coated look awesome the only thing is the dirt seems to accumulate on them far easier than a painted rim.
You just have to see a painted wheel even if the colour match is correct,beside a powder coated one and I guarantee you you would take the powder coated one any day.

And to add to this I'm gonna have to eat humble pie and admit that I was very wrong in my opinions earlier.
And even worse I have to say that ultimately Stromba is right buying new is the way to go unless there is an alloy refurbish god out there.
The problem with powder coat is that you cant control colour match as colour is rekated to heating and cooling cycle so the finished colour will always be different for different batches.
This is the reason speedline use paint. Quality control.
So no, id take the painted ones that are the right colour anyday.

wrong, you could do 100 different batches in powdercoat, and they'd all be identical, you can't affect the dpeth of the colour by cooling etc etc
where as you could spray 10 wheels at 10 different times, and they'd be different colours due to how may coats are applied
Cost aside is powdercoating the way to go with refurbing these wheels ?
Has anyone gone to Renault and asked them what they suggest/recommend?Maybe they have some sort of inside knowledge from Speedline that only they have access to,seeing as they have exclusive rights on these wheels.
