Strange question maybe - but how much is 103dB?

I am going to the Renault Sport track Day at Spa on the 26th. of April (woohoo... :D )
And my car is quite loud. Just noticed Spa has a 103Db limit.

What is your experience in regards to dB limits on UK tracks? (or Spa for that matter)
And which mods does your car have - like ITB's, loud exhaust...

The legal limit on the road is 84db at 35 mph if that helps

over 100 is pretty damn loud, but i'd get it checked before hand mate to be safe :-)

Even with my Oreca exhaust it only registered 93db at 5k rpm, and that was unsociably loud. It seemed louder than it registered though, lots of people told me it was way too loud for the road.

It would be best for you to actually measure it.

apparently, when i went, my car and yozzas were too loud.....but the nice rs guys, jeremy in particular, talked them round to lettin us carry on. which they did.

i personally wouldnt say mine was as loud as yozzas, altho it was quite loud, but yet its passed at oulton no probs. altho yozza did get a royal bollocking for booting it in the tunnel under the road lol.

Thanks guys.... :D
Unfortunately i do not have the time or opportunity to actually getting it measured - that would be best though.

Anyway - fingers crossed it's not way to loud...
I'll just have to make friends with Jeremy ASAP if that is the case!

BTW - Yozza likes a royal bollocking.... :D

Some Nokia phones have a built in dB meter. Maybe not the most accurate measurement in the world, but it gives you a rough idea. Ask around, maybe someone has it. IIRC it was built into that "weather proof" rubber phones. My mate used to have one. Maybe it's built into other Nokia phones too. :)

Might find an Android app for it....

Mines 100db at 4k, max for the rally car limit with a GpA Oreca exhaust....done with certified sound meter.

I've got a decibel meter at home, and had the guys at Xsport test it too with theirs.

There is DBa and DBc. be aware which one you are measuring with. DBc is the one track day organisers use I think?

I'd be very surprised if you are over 103dB. I've had issues with 98dB before (sneaked under and then been booted out for drive by noise failure later in the day) but 103dB is nearly twice as loud. My top tip is when they ask you your max revs knock a few hundred off it or tell them where the red line starts rather than where the limiter kicks in - that way you should at least pass the static test without any problem as they'll ask you to hold 2/3rds or 3/4 max revs when they take the reading.

^^^^^^^

not ideal really, as then when your 5 mins into your first session, you could well get black flagged for noise, only to then sit and watch for the rest of the day. iirc it was the inlet noise that was the prob, bodies being too loud on yozzas.

No, it's not ideal, I agree. What is the alternative though? I have my own dB meter and still don't get a figure that matches what various different tracks then say they measured it at so my only option is to keep it as low as possible and hope I don't have a problem.

Thanks guys....
Good input!

I'll let you know how it goes....
