yesterday i developd a sound around the front wheel area that sounded like a bag was wraped around 1 of my wheels or sounded like a puncture.....i checkd it out and there was nuthing there....now the sounds got worse and it sounds like a crsip packet is stuck sumwhere, or sounds similar to plastic breaking up , kinda like a crunching noise.....

iv taken the wheels off and cant see anythin stuck, everything seems stable and not loose or broken, iv rotated the disks and there is a small noise but nothing like what im hearin while driving....my disks were over 50% worn when i tuk it in 4 a service over a month ago....could it be the disks or is it somthing else?

can any1 help me?

thanks

the disks have got a lip on them and are warped, iv just finished cleanin the breaks and its still making the noise....

im getting the bearings checked oiut 2moro hopefully.....

the noise is constant wen excelerating, if costing i dont think it makes much noise....

could it be anythin apart from the wheel barings like the shock absorbers or wishbone?

bearings or bottom ball joint by the sounds of it... possibly stuck caliper? depends on noise. bearings will click, ball joints will sound like crunching knocking noise and calipers will rub/squeel

i had the same problem on my back left wheel, it was the wheel bearings.
Took it to a rolling road and garage man told me the problem as soon as he heard it.

Best bet is get a pro involved, take it to your local MOT place, put it on a rolling round and mr MOT man will tell you whats up

(make sure he dont fix it for you as all MOT men r rip off merchants)

mmmmmm sounds like it could be the ball joint then!......

how much am i looking at gettin it fixd?

they are a tenner from Euro car parts or GSF mate and apparently piece of piss to fit... although I had someone do mine as well as the bearings only the other week.

Mattie

not 2 expensive then! :D

take it i shudnt drive the car while its like this? what might happen if i do?

it's not bad if it is the ball joints, you'll feel/notice it more on uneven and crap road surfaces. they do need doing, mine lasted 2k before I changed them as it took some diagnosis to find the problem as its one of the only things that had not gone... lol

i'd change them asap tbh, as worst case scenario i'm told is the suspension collapsing...

5 mins mate, I waited while I was there for mine to be done as they forgot about em (i left the box with them in the boot... lol). really quick and easy job by the looks of things.

they did that at the garage and the noise was there....dus this bk up the theory of the gear box needing replacing?

J o n
09-08-2005, 08:59
hmm, not sure on gearbox, mine went in a different way, but if you need a new box your looking at £75-£100 and another £200-£250 for fitting. not too bad really, but a hassle all the same!

Mattie
09-08-2005, 10:30
is £75 - £100 for a new 1 or refurbed? and if its a new 1 where from?! surley it cant be from reno! didnt think it would be that cheep!.....

yeye iv already been quoted 250 4 fittin maybe less if it takes less time they sed

09-08-2005, 12:11
are valaver gear boxs identical 2 willy 1s or just very similar?

J o n
09-08-2005, 12:14
identical bar 5th gear from EXTENSIVE testing against Northy who's running a Willy box. In gear speed are ALL the same, gear changes at same time and speed... 5th is not as tall on the valver box tho, so I only get 135 on the clocks at 6500rpm, or if it's on a rev happy day 145ish at 7k

Mattie
09-08-2005, 12:23
ahh rite ill try and get a willy 1 then!

thankx 4 the help!

J o n
09-08-2005, 12:32

Jan
