I know you all love engines and mechanics - so here you go - enjoy!

Just came back from an event I staged yesterday for our distributors.
To do something different we held the event in a museum housing old diesel engines. Most of them still work and run regularly.

We paid them to start the biggest one of them.

A B&W 8 cylinder, 2 stroke, double acting 1400 ton diesel engine monster! :D
Double acting meaning a compression takes place at each end of the cylinder.
Each piston is 6 ton and the flywheel connected to the generator which used to make electricity to the powergrid weighs 80 ton!
Big stuff!
They start it using compressed air - and it starts immidiately after injecting the air and fuel. This kind a surprised me which is why i did not catch the start.... :(
