Just out of interest i'm holidaying in Turin Italy next friday and my friend and i have decided to drive from Calais.

I know there are tolls on french and italian motorways, but it's 650 miles on the motorway/9.5 hours of driving. if i go non toll roads its 770miles and 15 hours of driving!!!

seeing as most of the trip will be done in the night i just want to storm it by motorway, but how much should i expect to pay in Tolls? anyone have any experience driving similar trips?

BTW i'm not taking the willy, i'd be lucky if i made it to calais without a wheel coming off or similar! :D

All i can say really is roundabouts are different in respect to who has right of way

Tolls are around 130€. I did a similar trip from Ljubljana (Slovenia) to Calais and once from Ljubljana to Toulouse, and it's quite accurate.

nice one!

it's looking around 100 euro mark.
i currently don't have a sat nav with euro maps but ive seen a navigon euro app for the iphone which i've heard good reports about, but it's £70

i'm considering just purchasing it and doing it by non toll roads now, will be a longer trip but more fun i reckon!

Will be more fun on the way there, but by the return journey you'll just want to get home IME so will want to monster along the quickest route you can.

Not taking the willie? tut tut. Been down that route twice (actually double that distance) with the williams and all it needed was fuel

You have 2 options with regard to crossing the alps. Actually 3. Mont Blanc or Frejus tunnels. Frejus will bring you closer to Ivrea and I recollect that it is cheaper than the mont blanc and less tolls on the way there. You need to head towards Lyon and then Chambery to hook up with Frejus.
The 3rd optoin is going over the Alps on one of the pass's but seeing as your not in the Williams I would forget about it.

Hope you have a nice trip. Going at night is the way to go as you can gun it down there no probs. Should not take you more than 10 hours to reach there with 2 pilots.

i want to take the willie but daren't just yet as there's a few jobs to do on it, plus my company car can get 60 odd mpg which is what i need at the mo.

if it's all done in time it will be doing the coastal roads from Saint Tropez to Genoa in July! :D

yep i've also just bought a roll caged shell which i need to build into a track car pretty soon so i'll have to see what finances are available as well

if not this year maybe we could organise a european club tour type event (similar to the scum-run) and try and get a few cars to go? just a thought, but aa european cover would be needed!!! :D

the road trip was a success! had a good laugh and deffo can't wait to do another in the summer, hopefully this time in the williams :)

Orange throwing was good fun too, felt like neo in the matrix dodging all the oranges, but sodds law when i went to get my camera out of my pocket i got pelted in the side of the head!

definitely a recommended event though :)
