I dont start mine for months at a time and I always jack the front wheels off the floor and then put it in 3rd gear, I then spin the relevant wheel to turn the engine by hand to ensure nothing is seriously wrong, a few turns like this and then i fire it up.
In your case it might be worth taking the lead off the coil and turning it over a bit more with the starter to get some oil moving as its been idle for so long, and then fire it up and leave it idle to get the oil flowing, worth doing a visual on your cambelt too and thinking about when it was done last.
works for me

I personally would remove the spark plugs and crank the engine over, this will remove any load on the bearings at all and will be the most gentle way to circulate some oil around the engine.

mine discs rust up quiet a bit if the car is not driven for a few weeks. but are normally back to there shiny surface after a short run. not sure what will happen after standing for 18 months though??????

Be fine. Just start it, replace anything that breaks :)
