Im a newbie willy 2 owner and planning to do a few general maintenance jobs as part of a diy service, I haven't got a manual yet so was wandering what grade of gearbox oil the JC5 takes? :s

I think it's 75W/80 or something like that

You'll need about 4L

You need 3.1L to be precise. But because some oil always stays in the gearbox, you are ok to buy 3L and put them in.

My box took close to 4! But it was completely drained

According to the service manual it's 3.1L. But because this is Renault it could be more. :D

You can tell when it's at the level it should be as it will simply start to come out of the white plug hole. Can stick a finger in there, and if you can feel the liquid at the lip of the hole, the level is fine.

75w80 is what you need. I have some (elf tranself trx 75w80, the proper stuff!) on special offer at the moment, pm me for details.

I use 75/90 fully synth Millers in the rallycar and never had any issues.
