I've been quite down about the car of late, mainly due to the bottom end confirmed as shagged (only showing under HALF compression on all but one cylinder, and that one isn't great). In fact, I've not touched the car really or thought about it as I've just wanted to forget all about the trouble I've had and get over Xmas and New year, starting 2011 with a new outlook on the whole project.

Also, I have had some reaaaallly shit tyres on with my spare winter Speedlines as the R1R's are not so good in snow or sub zero temperatures. These tyres were so bad, I cant describe it. As with anything though, if you leave it long enough you just get used to something and make do.

Well anyway, today was the first fine day we've had and I needed to adjust my exhaust and have finished putting numerous layers of Poorboys Sealant on my decent wheels. So, armed with my spanners, off I went to change wheels. My clean ones are so minty fresh and polished they feel like sliding your finger over ice.

Anyway, having tweaked a bit and putting my suspension settings back to the way they were before the snow, I went out for a test drive.

OMG: I had forgotten how this thing goes. It is just amazing what a difference a good set of tyres and decent setup can do. The love is back! And despite a shagged engine, it's still putting out just shy of 170 bhp, which aint bad still I guess. I just need to ignore the puffs of oily smoke out the back for now :)

Looking forward to fixing my engine and getting out on track for 2011 :)

I have to agree the "love" moments of these cars make the "hate" moments easier to bear.

The car looks great, those wheels set it off v.nicely! Once BE sorted this will be a real flying machine.

Your car looks so much like mine - same lowered stance with neg. camber, similar spec (apart from ITB's on yours  ) similar condition. It is definitely a love hate thing with them though but to be fair you have had more than your fair share of bad luck over the last year mate. Glad you are looking at things from a more positive angle, hopefully when you get your bottom end sorted that will be the end of the problems and you can concentrate on enjoying it. Hope to see it in action at a track day this year... 8)

White writing on tyres should be left to real man tyres only.

I HATE IT lol. Like seeing a 17year old with his first car haha

Speedline is mint but the white writing on the tyre is a bit boyracer style 8)

Thanks guys :)

Yes, Tommo your car is similar to mine :) Mine has much worse bodywork though. I ought to get my arches done this year. The engine trouble has put the trip to the body shop on hold though.

We even have a Gripper LSD installed ;) You need ITB's and stuff though :(

Thanks fab. I hope to have a bunch more decent pics to show from this years fun and games too!

Not seen anyone with white writing on their tyres ever! Even boy racers! And no matter, people assume I am one in the Willy anyway hehe.

no worries maybe we will be taking some pics together cause it's been 6 years since i met up with the lads in anglesey on the first williamsclio track day. I had just bought my car then but it wasnt in mechanical order to be racing around a track..so went on a bike instead!
Met Northy,Gaz,Richie,Lunner, Martin, the Nana and a few others. They were very welcoming and took me out in their cars that day.
Just gotta get back to work now and get some money together for fresh boots and a ferry ticket

I kinda like the white writing..very jap like

correct - like i said real man tyres.

Wobba - jamie had white writing on his tyres at Anglesey. He was informed of his wrongs lol

Wobba, I've been tempted to go the ITB route, the noise and power is fantastic, but the expense always puts me off tbh. Plus I'm a bit reluctant to tinker with the engine as it's been very reliable for the last few years and I can't help but think any more power will result in old parts (and gearbox) going bang!

Anyway hope everything goes to plan with your Williams. Are you planning on doing Anglesey again this year if another club trackday is organised?

Yay!

And my tyres ARE real mans tyres! Just liek my car :D

Next time, my Willy should be all fixed too. You'll have to give it a test drive Northy.

Tommo. The ITB's are a good mod really even without tinkering with the engine internals. But yea, they are a bit cost prohibitive.

Would be great to take your car out for a few laps wobba, cheers i will take u up on that. Shame yours wasn't on form to keep with me as i would of loved a doo with you.

I normally dont drive other peoples cars at all, but having driven jons out on track it taught me alot, so i think its good to adapt your style with a different car.

p.s real man tyres are these and the only tyres white writting is allowed on is racing / competition ones :winkey:

I WANT THEM! Where I buy? I hear with that much traction I may end up ripping my shell apart hehe.

Ye, my engine will be fixed next time and will be quicker for sure! Having driven Jons, there is quite a difference in the behaviour, but his brakes are better I think lol. I think the handling in mine is probably more suited to the track though.
