Right, think the headgasket has gone on my V6 Vauxhall auto.

I know its difficult to give analysis on something on the net.

Oil cap is totally caked in mustardy mayo substance, so on this evidence its obviously a yes.

But...

The car also sounds like its running on less than 6 cylinders. Sounds extremely lumpy, almost like a very muted/muffled V6 sound on tick over. It has lost all power, wont do over 20mph, and has been running very flat in the last week before it gave up. I.e kickdown not responding etc. And the V6 just having zero torque and zero power curve.

Could this be other damage, relation to unbelievably lunmpy idle and running, or does this also sound consistent with headgasket failure?

:o 8) :P

Use a 'sniffer' on the coolant, or take a sample out of the coolant tank and take it somewhere who can test it for you.

You'll probably be losing coolant, and it will be pressurising the coolant system when it runs too.. Head off time!

As said above its not losing any or certainly hasnt lost any, but the coolant looks a bit lumpy, had a look in the header today. Might take a sample somewhere if i get chance tomorra. Didnt know that was available option. Cheers!

If it is HG hopefully it's not the rear bank!

Ive just had a light bulb moment!!!

I think it might be the coil pack.

Sounds like its miss firing, loss of power, lumpy idle and running sound etc etc.

No loss of water so possibly not the head gasket although there is a serious amount of mustardy mayo in the filler cap, but im led to believe vauxhall v6 engines suffer from this.

Last question,

Can any serious damage be done driving this car 5 mile max, if its not running on all cylinders?

Cant be arsed doing the knuckle dusting job of changing the coil pack so taking it to a garage.

:D
